JHS Orchestra To Host Concert

The Jamestown High School Concert Orchestra will be holding their final awards concert on Tuesday at 7 p.m. in the JHS auditorium. Admission will be free for this event and will feature some small ensemble performances, awards for the student and performances by the Symphonic, Chamber and Concert Full Orchestras. The theme for the program is music from movies and will include works such as “I’m Shipping up To Boston,” “Moana, My Immortal,” the first movement of Mozart’s “Eine Kleine Nachtmusik” and “Highlights,” from Pirates of the Caribbean. JHS Senior Olivia Gren will also be performing the last movement of Violin Concerto No. 2 by Seitz.

Tranum Named Award Winner

Todd Tranum, executive director of the Manufacturers Association of the Southern Tier and President and CEO of the Chautauqua County Chamber of Commerce, is the recipient of this year’s Chautauqua County School Boards Association Friend of Education Award. He received this award at CCSBA’s annual meeting and Honors Night on May 23 at the Williams Center on the SUNY Fredonia campus. Tranum was chosen by the CCSBA executive committee because of his involvement in promoting education in Chautauqua County. In addition to serving the Manufacturers Association and the Chamber of Commerce, Tranum serves as president/CEO of Dream It Do It Western New York and president of a for-profit insurance brokerage company, Chautauqua Benefit Specialists.

Auxiliary Board Meets Thursday

The Lakewood Rod and Gun Auxiliary Board will meet Thursday, June 7, at 6:30 p.m. The Auxiliary will not meet in July or August. Meetings will resume Sept. 10.

Tour Of Trail To Be Held June 22

The Chautauqua Watershed Conservancy invites the public to a tour of the David and Margaret Naetzker Preserve in North Harmony at 11 a.m. on Friday, June 22. Join CWC Lands Manager Jonathan Townsend as he leads a group through this relatively new preserve while identifying edible and medicinal plants that are found throughout the region. The tour is free for members, with a suggested donation of $5 for non-members and $10 for families. Those interested are asked to make reservations by calling 664-2166 or send an email to info@chautauquawatershed.org.

Radio Society Gathers June 9

The Pioneer, Radio, Operators, Society (PROS) will be holding it’s annual “Chaffee Country Hamboree” on June 9. This will be held at Manion Park, 9990 Grove St., Chaffee. The park is located West of Route 16 in downtown Chaffee. Gates open at 7 a.m. for set up and general admission starts at 8 a.m. Admission is $5, which includes your first table. A free ham radio test will be conducted at 10 AM by the CCARET and Laurel VE team. This is open to all license levels and for those who wish to get their first ham radio license. New hams for their first license, will need to provide two forms of ID. In addition this year, there will be a Chicken BBQ starting around 11 a.m. until sold out. Talk in frequency will be on 145.390 in Delevan. Any other questions can be directed to Chairperson, Roy KC2LEE. Contact Roy at 258-9255.
