Town Clerk’s Office Closed

FREWSBURG – The Carroll Town Clerk’s office will be closed this morning, with the office reopening no later than 2 p.m. The office will also be closed for Independence Day from Friday through Monday, reopening July 5.

Food Bank Truck To Visit Today

ASHVILLE – The Food Bank of Western New York Food Express Truck from Buffalo will be at the Ashville United Methodist Church from 9 a.m. to noon and 3-5 p.m. today. The truck brings fresh produce and some stable items. Food ‘N’ Faith Night Thursday

Concert Series Continues

The Jamestown Summer Bandshell Concert series will feature a concert by the Jamestown Municipal Band that is sponsored by the Scandinavian Studies Program. The concert, as directed by Rick Lundquist, will be held at 7 p.m. Wednesday and feature Swedish music and dancers. The Allen Park Women’s Club also will be selling korv burgers and other refreshments as part of the concert event. The free concert series is held at the Goranson Bandshell in Allen Park. In addition to funding provided annually by the City of Jamestown, these concerts are made available free to the public through the support of the following: Allen Park Women’s Club, Cattaraugus County Arts Council Decentralization Program, Chautauqua Region Community Foundation, Fessenden, Laumer & DeAngelo; Lind Funeral Home, Local 134, American Federation of Musicians; Scandinavian Studies Program, Salon 1, 7-Eleven, The Resource Center, The United Arts Appeal of Chautauqua County Projects Pool Grant Program, and WCA Hospital. As in previous years, members of the Allen Park Women’s Club will continue in their tradition of providing coffee, fudge and other baked goods during all of the concerts. All concerts are free to the public. Everyone is urged to bring their lawn chairs, blankets or park their vehicles close by to listen to the music from the comfort of their car.

Band Shell

Concert Planned

The Jamestown Municipal Band will celebrate the 50th anniversary of the construction of the Goranson Band Shell in Allen Park with its concert at 7 p.m. Wednesday. Mayor Sam Teresi will give a special proclamation and there will be a dedication ceremony at the facility to start the regularly scheduled concert. The Municipal Band, as directed by Rick Lundquist, will play an “Italian-themed” musical lineup sponsored by 7-Eleven. Commencement Set For Thursday

FALCONER – Falconer Central School will hold its 68th annual commencement ceremony at 7 p.m. Thursday at the Reg Lenna Center for the Arts. Jeff Lombardo, a 1986 Falconer Central School graduate, will deliver the commencement speech. Zachary Smith, son of Robert and Holly Smith, has been named class valedictorian and Walker Black, son of Timothy and Michelle Black, has been named salutatorian.

Chair Yoga Set For Saturday

RANDOLPH – Anyone who wants to gain the benefits of a yoga practice without getting down on the floor to use a mat might want to try “chair yoga.” Connie Dalbo Yoga is offering a free chair yoga workshop on Saturday from 9 -11 a.m. at the Randolph Presbyterian Church. The workshop will include a short chair yoga workout, a guided relaxation session and a healthy snack.

TEA Party To Meet June 28

LAKEWOOD – The Southern Tier TEA Party Patriots will meet at 7 p.m. Tuesday, June 28, at the Lakewood American Legion. Members will learn about the Yellow Card Project, a set of core subjects and questions directed at candidates. The video, “Are the Palestinians Still Refugees?,” will be shown, as well as Dinesh D’Souza’s trailer for his new film, “Hillary’s America,” which opens in July. Members will take a vote on whether to support Tom Reed’s re-election. Meetings are open to the public.

The Jamestown Board of Education will meet for a brief meeting on Wednesday at 5:30 p.m. to approve the district professional development plan and approve the hiring of a replacement for the purchasing clerk. The meeting will take place in the superintendent’s conference room.

The Southwestern Central School Board of Education’s meeting originally scheduled for June 28 at 7 p.m. has been rescheduled for Tuesday at 7 p.m. in the board of education room. The purpose of the meeting is to conduct school business. In addition, the organizational/regular meeting that was scheduled for Friday, July 1 has been rescheduled to Tuesday, July 5 at 7 p.m. in the board of education room located in the middle school.

St. James To Honor Carlo

On Sunday, St. James will host a coffee hour with cake and donuts after the 11 a.m. mass to honor Mary Ann Carlo for her 25 years of service to their thrift shop. All present and past volunteers who worked with her are welcome, as are all parishioners.

Infinity Recital Set For June 30

Rap Group To Meet Saturday

Is there an upside to living with Multiple Sclerosis? Support Group To Meet Tuesday

The Alzheimer’s Association’s monthly caregiver support group will meet Tuesday from 1-2:30 p.m. in the second floor conference room at the JAMA Building, 15 S. Main St., Jamestown. An evening monthly caregiver support group will meet on Thursday from 5:30-7 p.m. in Fluvanna Community Church on Fluvanna Avenue Extension. Ladies Aid Society To Hold Picnic

The Ladies Aid Society of the Kiantone Congregational Church will meet for a picnic on Thursday. Members attending should take a dish to pass. Bert and Roberta Anderson spoke on their medical missionary work in Haiti when the group met for a pork loin dinner, catered by Sally Haag. A white elephant sale was held with proceeds benefiting the youth church camp fund. Cindy Hotchkiss spoke on the years of hard work, commitment and kindness the women have for one another and the church members.

MG Senior Receives Honor

Maple Grove senior Emily Allen has been selected as the inaugural recipient of the Mary Jane Stahley History Award from the Bemus Point Historical Society. At the Wednesday meeting, Stahley and Allen will meet and at a brief reception, Allen will receive her cash award. The society’s program for the evening is “Local History Show and Tell.” At this last program of the society’s year of guest speakers, members will have five minutes (or less) to wow fellow members with their prized historical treasures. The festivities begin Wednesday at 7 p.m. at the society’s museum on Alburtus Avenue in downtown Bemus Point.

Cancer Support Group To Meet

The Breast Cancer Support Group will meet at 6 p.m. Wednesday at at Friendly’s Restaurant in Brooklyn Square. Dinner is at 6 p.m. with the guest speaker, the Rev. Robert Lewis, at 7 p.m. He will speak about the travels he and his wife Linda have taken this past year and also their journey with cancer. New members and guests are welcome. There is no charge to be a member. The group provides a way to spend time with other breast cancer patients.

Michelle Henry, Chautauqua County Historian, will be the guest speaker when Westfield Senior Citizens meet for a dish-to-pass dinner on Thursday at 6 p.m. in the YWCA dining room. Seniors attending should take also take their table service. After a recent dinner meeting, Pat Sciarrino presented a reading of ”The Color of Friendship.” A Chinese auction was held and prizes were awarded to Shirley Kolpien and pat Everts. Membership in the group is always open to new members, age 60 and over.

Legion To Host Several Events

Herman Kent American Legion Post 777 will host several events this week. Greatest Hits will perform from 5-9 p.m. Thursday, with the post also serving grilled pork chops. Dinner is $7. On Saturday, We Speak Canadian will perform from 8:30 p.m. to 12:30 a.m. while the post will serve chicken with three-cheese and bacon for $10.99. The post will then host a parking lot sale, with tables for $10, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday.

New Museum Exhibit Now Open

MACHIAS – The Cattaraugus County Museum and Research Library has opened its new exhibit: “The National Pastime: Baseball in Cattaraugus County Museum.” The centerpiece of this exhibit is the museum’s Ed Tanner collection, focusing on the career of the Franklinville Frankees standout. In addition the museum has uniforms, photos and memorabilia of teams from across Cattaraugus County. The Cattaraugus County Museum is located in the Stone House, 9824 Route 16 in Machias. The YWCA has selected five women to be recognized as Women of Achievement for 2016. Museum Sets Summer Hours

MAYVILLE – The former Pennsylvania Railroad train depot museum in Mayville, lakeside on Route 394 at the foot of South Erie Street, is now open for the summer season through Labor Day. The Chautauqua Township Historical Society maintains the museum. It is open weekends on Friday, Saturday and Sunday from 1-5 p.m. There is a small admission fee for adults; children are free. The museum is filled with artifacts from the daily lives of locals and businesses that once flourished in the Mayville area. It is child friendly. Golf Tournament Set For Saturday

WESTFIELD – The Northern Chautauqua Canine Rescue is registering golfers for their third annual Putts For Mutts Golf Tournament on Saturday at Pinehurst Golf Club, 7428 E. Main Road, Westfield. The 18-hole, two-person scramble is $60 per person and includes a barbecue lunch afterward. Giveaways are open to the public from 10 a.m. to noon with more than $2,900 in items and golf prizes available.
