Spaghetti Dinner Set For Saturday

Hold Reunion
Forty-one members of the Merle and Alice Harrington family recently gathered for a family reunion in Falconer Park, Celoron. Harrington and the former Alice Washburg were married on July 25, 1914, in the M.E. Church in Sinclairville. They had six daughters: Marcella Waltz of Lock Haven, Pa., Marlene Kolstee of Busti, Arlene Anderson of Jamestown and the late Ruby McClaran, Lagressa Stimson and Agnes Erickson. With over 140 descendants, members of five different generations attended. Steve Tompsett opened with an introduction and prayer, followed by a picnic, group photographs and displays of family history. Prizes were awarded to Marlene Kolstee, the oldest attending; Sandra Tompsett, the most descendants; Randy Brandow, who travelled the furthest, and Zoey Tompsett, the youngest attending. Andrew Martin Kolstee presented family history and stories. Family came in from New York and Florida. The next reunion will be Sunday, July 17, 2016.

Beekeepers To Meet Thursday
The Chautauqua County Beekeepers Association will meet on Thursday, Oct. 1, at the Frank W Bratt Agricultural Center, 3542 Turner Road, at 7 p.m. The meeting is open to new and experienced beekeepers as well as those interested in learning about beekeeping. Monthly CCBA meetings provide an opportunity to meet people from throughout the region who are involved in keeping bees, including large-scale beekeepers, as well “sideliners” and hobbyists. Topics for discussion will include: preparing for winter, harvesting honey, update on demonstration apiary and planning for upcoming extraction workshop and announcements of related events. Barbecue To Be Held At Moose
FALCONER – The Kiwanis Club of Falconer is hosting a chicken barbecue on Saturday, Oct. 3, at the Falconer Moose Lodge from 5-7 p.m. Dinners will be available at the door for $10 while supplies last. Proceeds will go to Kiwanis Service Leadership programs at Falconer Central Schools. These programs include Key Club, Builders Club and Key Leader. FREWSBURG – Myers Memorial Library will be holding its Introduction to Genealogy class on Thursday, Oct. 1 and 8 at 6:30 p.m. in the library. Family Holds 101st Reunion
GERRY – Descendant of Walter and Camilla Shepardson recently met at the Gerry town park for the 101st reunion, picnic and meeting with 41 family members in attendance. Traveling the furthest were Bruce Thompson of California and Richard and Patty Shepardson of New Mexico. Larry and Carol Barmore were re-elected presidents for 2016 and Judy Barmore was re-elected secretary/treasurer. The next reunion will be held at the Gerry park on the fourth Saturday of August 2016.

Observatory To Open For Eclipse
The Martz/Kohl observatory will be open to the public Sunday at 8 p.m. to view the lunar eclipse. They will also will have it live online at martzobservatory.org. This type of eclipse will not happen again until 2033. The moon will be a blood moon and also a super moon. The eclipse starts at 9:07 p.m. and will be total at 10:11 p.m. with the eclipse ending at 11:23 p.m.
Yard Waste Site Hours To Change
The final Wednesday that the Jamestown Board of Public Utilities (BPU) Yard Waste Site will be open is from 2-7 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 30. Saturday hours continue until further notice, with a garbage trucks available from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. The Yard Waste Site is located at the dead end of Monroe Street, off Eighth Street in the city. A Yard Waste Site sticker must be affixed to the car window for access to the site. One sticker is available free of charge per solid waste account at BPU Customer Service, 92 Steele St., open from 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. weekdays.

Lake View Cemetery will begin its annual fall cleanup on Tuesday, Oct. 6. Any decorations not removed by that date will be disposed of by cemetery personnel. Smart Driver Class Scheduled
SINCLAIRVILLE – The South Stockton Wayside Chapel, 5537 Route 380, Sinclairville, is sponsoring an AARP Smart Driver class Tuesday and Thursday from 9 a.m. until noon. Payment is payable by check only made out to AARP, and is $20 for AARP members and $25 for non-AARP members. The class is open to any licensed driver of any age, and one does not need to belong to AARP. Class size is limited. Antique Club Plans Bus Trip
The Women’s Lakewood Antique Study Club will sponsor a bus trip to the Tarbell House in Titusville, Pa., on Sept. 30. Outdoor Club To Hike, Ride Bikes
Today, the Allegheny Outdoor Club will hike the trails in Cook Forest State Park. Participants will meet at the Log Cabin Inn/Environmental Learning Center on Forest Road between Vowinckle and Cooksburg at 10 a.m. The hike will consist of five miles of easy hiking on the Liggett, Brown Run, Deer Meadow and Hefren Run Loop trails. TOPS Members Hold Meeting
TOPS 142 Jamestown members met on Aug. 26. Chick Morrison opened the meeting by reciting the TOPS and KOPS pledges, followed by roll call and also presented a program on the power of keeping a journal of thoughts, progress and weight loss. A ”no gain” week was celebrated with all members having a loss. Best losers were Jeff Caldwell, TOPS and Bonny Abers, KOPS. The thought was ”If it is to be, it’s up to me.”

Store Updates Clothing Stock
St. James Thrift Store, located at 141 Institute St., now has fall and winter clothing in stock. Volunteers are members of the RSVP program and are on hand to help select fall and winter clothing for customers. All sales are $2 a bag. Stevens To Serve As Elder
The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, 851 Forest Ave., Jamestown, announced that Michael David Stevens of Colorado Springs, Colo., will serve as an elder at the church. He is the son of James and June Stevens and is one of three children who served missions. While in Jamestown, he hopes to gain a deeper understanding and testimony of the truthfulness of the restored gospel that will sustain him throughout his life. He also expects to touch many lives and invite them to come closer to Christ and deepen their own conversion. When asked his thoughts on the town he stated it seemed to be very historic, full of culture and man different types of people. He is excited to get to know these people and live in a more rural area again.

Atkins Family Holds Reunion
RUSSELL, Pa. – The 55th reunion for the L.L. Atkins family was held Aug. 8 at Laramere Park in Russell, Pennsylvania. Fifty-five family members enjoyed a Hawaiian luau-themed dinner, catered by Debbie and Rick Stearns. Sterl Tuller is the oldest family member living at age 93. I Am Loved Event Set For Saturday
