Board To Meet

SALAMANCA – The Salamanca City Central School District Board of Education will meet at 6:30 p.m. today in the Salamanca High School large group instruction room. The public is welcome to attend.

Outdoor Club

To Watch Eagles

On Saturday, the Allegheny Outdoor Club will participate in the eagle watch program at the Kinzua Dam. The program runs from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Activities will include an audio-visual program detailing eagle restoration efforts presented by David Donachy, Pennsylvania Game Commission wildlife conservation officer, and a geomeet “Caching with Eagles” organized by Kinzua Cachers. A few temporary caches will be set up around the recreation area. Three public areas of interest will be open for public viewing and learning about America’s national bird: the Big Bend Visitor Center, Riverside Watchable Wildlife Trail and Viewing Platform (located along Allegheny River tail-waters), and Kinzua Dam roadway. Observation stations will be manned and spotting scopes will be available to better observe the eagles. Persons 18 years of age and older will be required to show identification to gain access to the roadway at the dam. Visitors are encouraged to bring binoculars and to dress warmly. Hot chocolate, courtesy of Kondak’s Market, will be provided at the viewing platform. Other refreshments will be available in the visitors center. The program is free. Tax Service Available

Tax preparation through the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program will be available at the James Prendergast Library, 509 Cherry St., Jamestown, every Saturday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. from Jan. 31 through April 11 and every Tuesday from 4-8 p.m. from Feb. 3 through April 14. Income-eligible people who made less than $53,000 in the 2014 tax year may qualify for assistance. Losers Named

Ray Anderson and Dennis Beck were named TOPS best losers when 29 members weighed in at a recent TOPS 721 Jamestown meting. Cathy Bossler was the KOPS best loser and Barb Linza received free dues. GERRY – The Gerry United Methodist Church will hold a Super Bowl 12-inch sub sale Sunday. Orders are by pre-sale only. Library To Show Dinosaur Film

FREWSBURG – The Myers Memorial Library will show the documentary “Dinosaur” 13 at 3:30 and 6:30 p.m. Wednesday. The movie is about the most complete T-Rex fossil found and the controversy that followed its discovery in the Badlands by paleontologist Peter Larson’s team in 1990. Library To Show ‘180’ Movie

“180,” a film featuring man-on-the-street interviews on the sanctity of human life, will be shown at 2 p.m. Saturday in the Fireplace Room of the Jamestown Prendergast Library. Business Basics Workshops Set

A two-hour class called “business basics” aims to give participants essential information and guidance. Participants will learn what resources are available to help plan their businesses and will start with tips to evaluate the feasibility of their ideas and explore financing options, marketing, record keeping and more. YMCA To Hold Kids Activities

The Jamestown YMCA will provide full day of activities for children 5 to 12 years of age for the upcoming school holiday on Monday. Age-appropriate activities are planned for Martin Luther King Day starting at 7:30 a.m. and ending at 5:30 p.m. such as swimming, arts and crafts, gym games, The Big Challenge Obstacle course and more. Fitness Courses Begin Jan. 26

The next seven-week session of community fitness courses offered by Jamestown Community College’s Total Fitness program and Faculty Student Association begin Jan. 26. Classes include: Water aerobics, 7:30-8:30 p.m., Mondays and 9:30-10:30 a.m., Saturdays; pilates, 5:30-6:30 p.m., Tuesdays, and 5:30-6:15 p.m., Thursdays; and toning, 4:15-5 p.m. Wednesdays. Individual class fees are $4 for Total Fitness members and $7 for non-members. The prepaid card rate for seven classes is $24, members, and $42, non-members. The 14-week prepaid card rate is $48, members, and $84, non-members. Classes are conducted in the Physical Education Complex. Golden Agers

To Meet Jan. 20

The Lakewood-Busti Golden Agers will meet at 1 p.m. on Jan. 20 in the Lakewood American Legion Post. Games of bingo will be played following the meeting. Forty-six members attended a recent meeting held in the legion post. New officers were elected. They are Cecile Wilson, president; William Haenggi, vice president; Frances Stahley, secretary and Ronald Stahley, treasurer. A motion was made and carried to make an annual donation to the legion for the use of their facilities. Correspondence included thank you notes from eight organizations that received knitted, scarves and mittens made by Golden Ager members for area needy children. Charlotte Johnson stated yarn is available and a knitting class will be held in January. Helen Johnson spoke on the 2015 trip program and also the mailing of two boxes of coupons in December. The 30-voice A cappella Choir at Southwestern School, directed by Sue Huther, presented a program of Christmas carols.

Ballroom Dance Slated For Jan. 15

LAKEWOOD – The next session of Ballroom Dance is scheduled to begin Thursday, Jan. 15, at the Lakewood YMCA. Chautauqua County Beekeepers Association will meet on Thursday at 7 p.m. at the Frank W. Bratt Agricultural Center, 3542 Turner Road, Jamestown. Topics will include: Planning for the forthcoming beekeeping season; preparing equipment; obtaining bees; situating your apiary; and planning ahead. Discussion will also include the Beginner Beekeeper course and CCBA apiary, as well as membership and dues, bylaws, questions and answers, and announcements of upcoming events. All are welcome.

Russo To Talk Book On ‘Sunrise’

“Chautauqua Sunrise” will feature Jennifer Russo as the guest Saturday. Russo is a children’s literature author. The show will be hosted by Doc Hamels. The live, call-in program airs from 9-10 a.m. Individuals may call 753-5225 during that time with questions, comments or a shout-out. The program is rebroadcast each day at 2 and 8 p.m. for some communities. The guest is subject to change. “Chautauqua Sunrise” is shown live on Saturday mornings on Time Warner cable systems covering the following communities: Brocton, Cassadaga, Chautauqua, Fredonia, Mayville, North Harmony, Portland, Ripley, Sherman, Stockton and Westfield on Channel 5. In Dunkirk, Falconer, Forestville, Hanover, Irving, Jamestown, Lakewood and Silver Creek the program is on channel 19. The show originates at the Access Channel 5 studio in Mayville. The program may also be viewed after the initial airing at the station’s website ac5.weebly.com/.
