JHS Class Of ’68 To Meet Soon

The Jamestown High School Class of 1968 Reunion committee is finalizing plans for its 45th class reunion on Saturday, Aug. 3, at Moon Brook Country Club. A get-together will be held at 5:30 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 2, in the Lucy Fest Train Station and later in Miley’s to finish the evening. Dr. Barnes To Appear On Show

Senior Report with Reed Powers will have Dr. Robert Barnes as the guest on the Saturday television program. Barnes is a doctor of osteopathic medicine. The live, call-in program airs from 9-10 a.m. on Saturday morning. Individuals may call 753-5225 during that time with questions or comments. The program is rebroadcast each day at 2 and 8 p.m. for some communities. Reed Powers, host of Senior Report, has been producing the television program since 1995. The series highlights senior citizen club news for 15 minutes with the remainder of the hour-long program devoted to the featured guest. The guest is subject to change. Senior Report is shown live on Saturday mornings on Time Warner cable systems covering the following communities: Brocton, Cassadaga, Chautauqua, Fredonia, Mayville, North Harmony, Portland, Ripley, Sherman, Stockton and Westfield on Channel 5. In Dunkirk, Falconer, Forestville, Hanover, Irving, Jamestown, Lakewood and Silver Creek the program is on channel 19. The show originates at the Access Channel 5 studio in Mayville.

Cancer Group Sets Up Booth

The Breast Cancer Support Group of Jamestown now has a booth set up at the Crossroads Market between Sherman and Westfield on Route 21. The booth has “Turn on the Pink to Black Out Breast Cancer” shirts, pink light bulbs, breast cancer jewelry, “Help Button Up Breast Cancer” pins, scarfs and more. Driving Course Begins Monday

The Salamanca Senior Center is hosting a six-hour Driver Safety Program on Monday and Tuesday. Classes will be held at the Senior Center located at 20 Main St. in Salamanca, from 6-9 p.m.each evening. Drivers must attend both sessions to receive credit for the course. The cost is $17 for AARP members and $19 for non-members, by check only payable to AARP. Drivers of all ages are welcome. Course participants may be eligible to receive a discount on auto insurance premiums and a reduction of up to four points on their driving record. Rummage Sale Set For June 7-8

FALCONER – The Falconer Marching Band will hold a rummage sale from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday, June 7, and Saturday, June 8, at 32 W. Main St., Falconer, the pavilion next to Bair’s Pizza. ‘Trojan Trek’ Set For June 9

Southwestern Boys Basketball Booster program will be hosting the “Trojan Trek” 3.1 mile run/walk Sunday, June 9 at noon. This off-road race will take place on the cross-country trail at Southwestern High School. Pre-registration is accepted until Friday, and onsite registration is 11-11:45 a.m. at SWCS Middle School. Falconer Seniors To Meet Today

Falconer Senior Citizens will meet at 1 p.m. today. A recent meeting, attended by 45 seniors and seven new members, was opened with a flag salute and prayer. A moment of silence was held for the victims of the Boston bombing. A display of exotic flowers was presented by Lucie and Muriel Casis. Receiving incentive awards were Jay Destro, Frank Foti, Dorothy Galati, Mary Pinzone and Mary Racitano. The meeting was adjourned by Josie Fonti, seconded by Carm Muscarella.

Special Olympics Are Wednesday

Church To Host Proclaim Ministry

Lighthouse Baptist Church, 381 Camp St., Jamestown, will host the Proclaim Ministry Team from Pensacola Christian College at 7 p.m. Tuesday. The group features music, dramatic selections, testimonies and a DVD presentation about the college. The campus is located on the Gulf Cost of northwest Florida. It offers a variety of programs on the undergraduate, graduate and seminary levels. Beginning with just 100 students, it now has more than 4,000 students. There is no charge for the program. Civil War Series Begins Saturday

MACHIAS – The first event in the summer-long Civil War series at the Cattaraugus County Museum, in the Stone House, 9824 Route 16, Machias, will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday. Valgene Dunham will discuss and sign copies of his book ”Allegany to Appomattox: The Life and Letters of Private William Whitlock of the 188th NY Volunteers.” Weather permitting, the discussion will be outdoors. Historical Society Museum Opens

SINCLAIRVILLE – The Valley Historical Society museum in Sinclairville is now open for the season. The museum is open on Sundays from 2-5 p.m. from May through September except for holiday weekends. Thrift Shop Has Items Available

St. Luke’s Thrift Shop, 409 Pine St., Jamestown, has an abundant supply of extra-large men’s clothing, including up to size 44 shorts. The shop also has plus-sized ladies clothing up to size 4x. Ladies raincoats and scrubs are being offered at half price. The shop is open 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Wednesdays through Fridays and 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturdays. Donated items are received on those days as well as 9 a.m. to noon on Tuesdays. Proceeds from the shop, which is run by volunteers from St. Luke’s Episcopal Church, RSVP and the community, are donated to local outreach programs.

Kennedy Grange 496 met recently at the Clarks Corners Community Church with a baking powder biscuit contest with judges being Lois and Linda Kesby of Ellery. Winners were Barb Wiltsie, first place; Donna Cross, second place; and Eunice Speta, third place. Brenda Gustafson was in charge of the event. It was noted that April was Grange Month, and Kennedy Grange celebrated by sowing the seeds of Kindness with a food drive for the Kennedy First United Methodist Church food cupboard. The next meeting will be held at 7 p.m. on Friday at the Clarks Corners Church with a presentation put on by the Randolph Central School FFA students with Patricia Walker, teacher and adviser.

Celoron-West Ellicott Seniors will meet for a tureen lunch at noon on Wednesday in the Herman Kent Post American Legion. Members should take their table service and a dish to pass. Birthdays included Lucy Arone, Ms. Lindstrom, Marlene Carlson and Bev Linamen. Anniversaries were celebrated by Chuck and Dee Ellis, and June and John Federko. Jeanne Sampson and Barb Olander introduced Michele Muirhead, of Hire the Help referral agency, who spoke on services to help make life easier. Group pictures were taken before the meeting closed with song.

Steak Dinner To Be Held Saturday

The Memorial Library of Little Valley is again holding a steak dinner at the VFW in Little Valley on Saturday from 5-8 p.m. The meal will consist of a Delmonico steak, baked potato, green beans, salad, rolls, beverage and dessert. Tickets are available by presale or by reservations. They may be purchased at the library during regular hours. 60th Anniversary Celebration Set

PANAMA – A 60th anniversary celebration will be held for Mary and Bob Davis at Our Lady of Snows at 36 E. SALAMANCA – Mayor Carmen Vecchiarella has called a special meeting of the mayor and Common Council to be held Monday at 6 p.m. in the conference room of the city’s Municipal Building. CWC Sets Wildflower Walk

The Chautauqua Watershed Conservancy invites its members and the public to join the annual Wildflower Walk today from 12:30-2:30 p.m. This year’s walk will take place at CWC’s new Elm Flats Wetland Preserve First Site on Lawson Road in Mayville. Valu Event Set For Saturday

LAKEWOOD – Valu Home Centers will hold a community event day from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday. A local organization will be selling hot dogs and pop for a minimal donation. ‘Dialogues’ To Air Saturday

“Dialogues” is the name of a half-hour television program produced by Mark Kiyak from SUNY Fredonia. Hosted by Tina Zboch, the program will feature guest John Hertlein. Hertlein served the Silver Creek School district for the past 18 years as high school principal and is now the superintendent of Brocton Central School. The program will air on Access Channel 5 at 3 and 9 p.m. each day, beginning Saturday with the last airing on May 17. Free Rabies Clinic Is Saturday

KENNEDY – A free rabies vaccination clinic will be held Saturday from 1-3 p.m. at the Town of Poland Highway Building, Grubb Hill Road, Kennedy. Vaccinations will be provided free of charge to all dogs, cats and domesticated ferrets three months of age and older. All pets must be on a leash or in a cage; and you should bring rabies vaccination records for each animal that will be receiving a shot. New York State Public Health Law requires each dog, cat and domesticated ferret over the age of four months be vaccinated against rabies.
