Library Board To Meet Monday

Senior Report To Host Don Pituch

“Senior Report with Reed Powers” will have Don Pituch as the guest Saturday. Pituch, an avid sportsman, will discuss fishing. The live, call-in program airs from 9-10 a.m. Saturday. Individuals may call 753-5225 during that time with questions, comments or a shout-out. The program is rebroadcast each day at 2 and 8 p.m. for some communities. Reed Powers, host of “Senior Report,” has been producing the television program since 1995. The series highlights senior citizen club news for 15 minutes with the remainder of the hour-long program devoted to the featured guest. The guest is subject to change. Senior Report is shown live on Saturday mornings on Time Warner cable systems covering the following communities: Brocton, Cassadaga, Chautauqua, Fredonia, Mayville, North Harmony, Portland, Ripley, Sherman, Stockton and Westfield on Channel 5. Choir To Perform Annual Cantata

The Pine Valley Community Choir will present its annual cantata, ”Evidence of Grace,” at 7:30 p.m. today in the Pine Valley Central High School Auditorium. A free-will offering will be taken.

Ashville Egg Hunt Rescheduled

ASHVILLE – The Easter egg hunt scheduled for Saturday at the Llama Club in Ashville has been rescheduled for April 13 at 10 a.m. at the same location.

Garden Talks Begin Tuesday

LAKEWOOD – Spring Garden Talks will be held at the Lakewood Memorial Library, 12 W. Summit St., Lakewood, select Tuesdays in April from 6-7 p.m. The talks will be led by Cheryl Wahlstrom, Master Gardener. Master Gardeners is a program of Cornell Cooperative Extension. “Gardening 101,” featuring tips and techniques for successful gardening, will take place Tuesday. “Eco-Friendly Gardening,” which will concern composting, pest management and native plants, will be held April 9. “Inviting Nature Into Your Garden,” which will discuss encouraging birds, butterflies and beneficial insects to visit your garden, will take place April 16. “Healthy Landscaping, Healthy Waters,” which will be led by Jane Conroe, conservationist for Chautauqua Watershed Conservancy, will be held April 23 and will deal with how healthy gardens promote clean water.

Sugaring Party Set For Tuesday

SINCLAIRVILLE -The Valley Historical Society will meet for the annual maple sugaring party at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, in the South Stockton Wayside Chapel. Members should take a dish of food to pass and their table service. Dues may be paid for the year.

TitanX Seeks Items For Event

TitanX, a producer of medium- and heavy-duty diesel engine cooling solutions, officials are asking for assistance from the public to celebrate the company’s 100th anniversary. Andy Johnson, TitanX human resources director, said for an open house for employees that will be occurring later this spring, TitanX officials would like former employees who have old artifacts from the business to loan them or donate them to be on display for the open house. Johnson said besides being known as TitanX, the business has also been Valeo and Blackstone Corporation. Church Choirs To Perform Sunday

ASHVILLE – The Magnolia, North Harmony and Open Meadows United Methodist Church choirs will perform the Easter cantata “Alleluia, Christ Is Risen!” for the 7 a.m. Easter Sunday sunrise service in the Open Meadows Church, Open Meadows Road, Ashville. Egg Hunt Location Change

Due to inclement weather, the annual Eastside Fellowship Easter Egg Hunt will be held in the last JCC parking lot on Curtis Street by the tennis courts on Saturday at 10 a.m. Candy will be distributed.

Registration Due By Monday

Registration for the Salvation Army’s 5K Anew Run and Walk is due by Monday. Pre-registration is $20, and only pre-registered participants will be guaranteed a T-shirt. The run and walk will be held at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, April 13, with registration from 7:30-9 a.m. in the Salvation Army gym. Awards will be given for the first man and woman walkers in all age groups; first, second and third prizes will be given to the top male and female runners in the following age groups: 14 and under, ages 15 to 19, ages 20 to 29, 30 to 39, 40 to 49, 50 to 59 and ages 60 and over. A prize will also be given to the person raising the most money through pledges. Proceeds will benefit the Salvation Army Anew Center, which offers comprehensive services to victims of domestic violence, rape and sexual assault in Chautauqua County. Passover Seder Dinner Is Saturday

FREWSBURG – On Saturday at 7 p.m., the First Baptist Church of Frewsburg, located at 17 E. Antique Assn. To Meet Tuesday

The first meeting of the year for the Chautauqua County Antique Equipment Association will be held at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Laona United Methodist Church, corner of Porter Avenue and Wilson Road, Laona. Plans will be discussed for the member Plow Day at Stockton next to the association ground May 11. Early plans for the 39th annual Chautauqua County Antique Equipment Show Aug.16-18 at the show grounds in Stockton featuring the White corporate group of tractors and their antecedents will also be discussed. Wednesday evening work nights start May 1 at 6 p.m. Projects this year include running water and electricity to the new pavilion and pouring a floor for it, and adding a porch to the museum.

Kiantone Seniors Meet Wednesday

KIANTONE – The Kiantone Senior Citizens meet the fourth Wednesday of each month. The meeting place has changed from Kiantone Fire Hall to the Kiantone Congregational Church, 646 Kiantone Road, Kiantone. The group meets at noon for a potluck luncheon followed by a meeting. BPU Blood Drive Is Thursday

The Jamestown Board of Public Utilities will host a Red Cross blood drive from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Thursday at the BPU Education Room, 92 Steele St., Jamestown. Lunch will be provided free-of-charge to blood donors. Donors may access the BPU Bloodmobile by entering the “D” driveway at 92 Steele St. to reach the BPU parking lot. Facing the building from the parking lot, one should enter the right door under the green awning beside the BPU Customer Service Department and take the elevator to the first floor. Donors will need a picture ID such as a blood donor card or driver’s license. Donors must be in good health and at least 17 years of age. Walk-ins are welcome. Ham Radio To Host Training

The local Ham Radio club, CCAFMA will play host to National Weather Service “Sky Warn” training at its Monday meeting in the auditorium at WCA Hospital. The training will begin at 7:30 p.m. and will be presented by meteorologist Judy Levan of the Buffalo office of the National Weather Service. Sky Warn is a system of trained, volunteer weather observers who observe and report potentially hazardous weather conditions directly to the NWS via telephone or by Amateur Radio. The training is free of charge, takes about two hours, and is available to any one with an interest in weather and/or public service. An Amateur radio license is not required. Participants will be certified as Sky Warn spotters.

Grange To Hold Afghans Event

FALCONER – Ross Grange members will hold a work meeting for “Warm Up America” afghans at 11 a.m. Monday. The regular meeting will include fellowship at 2:30 p.m. with the business meeting at 3. The Family Activities Committee will present the program. Included will be information on Ross Grange activities during World War II. This is a National Grange project. Churches To Host Family Dinner

TEA Party Patriots To Meet

Critical Discussion Series Continues

Prendergast Library will offer the fourth in its Critical Discussion Series from 7-9 p.m. Thursday in the Fireplace Room at the library with a program on Fracking – Impacts on Environment, Health and Society. Moderator Becky Nystrom, Jamestown Community College professor of biology, will join panelists Sarah Buckley, Robert M. Ciesielski, David Kowalski and Rita Yelda. Buckley will discuss fracking basics from wellpad to pipeline; Ciesielski, leasing and legal issues such as signing considerations, compulsory integration, landowner rights, flipping, and impacts on mortgages and insurance; Kowalski, environmental and health issues including an analysis of industry positions vs. other studies and evidence; and Yelda, fracking developments in New York during the last four years. Park Project To Meet Wednesday

Notary Seminar Set For Tuesday

Winter Book Sale Starts Today

The Fluvanna Free Library will hold its winter book sale today from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Friday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Items include hardcover and paperback books for both adults and children. Fiction and nonfiction are available. Many videos are priced at 25 cents. DVDs, CDs, magazines and puzzles are for purchase also. The library received another new queen-size quilt donated by the West Oak Hill Quilters for a fundraiser this year. The tickets are $1 for one and $5 for six. One can purchase a ticket from a West Oak Hill Quilter or at the library and will be available now until the lucky number is drawn at the November bazaar.

NARFE Employees To Meet Friday

The National Active and Retired Federal Employees Chapter 267 will hold its regular meeting on Friday. The meeting is at Friendly’s Restaurant in Jamestown’s Brooklyn Square, and will begin at 11:15 a.m. NARFE held its Legislation Education Conference in Washington this past weekend, so discussion will focus on the legislation, introduced or expected, that is of interest to federal retirees and active employees. The role of NARFE-PAC will be discussed. All active postal and civilian employees and all postal and federal retirees are invited to Friendly’s for education, for lunch, for dessert and for meeting with former co-workers. Indoor Yard Sale Begins Saturday

Chautauqua Suites will host an indoor yard sale Saturday and Sunday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. A $1 fee at the door enters attendees into a 50/50 drawing. Half the funds go to the winner and half to a charity of the winner’s choice.

Thule Lodge To Meet Saturday

BEMUS POINT- The Thule Lodge will hold its monthly meeting at the lodge on 4123 Pancake Hill Road this Saturday at 2 p.m. Following the meeting, the annual Easter Swedish festival of food will be held. The festival is known in Swedish as the “egg sexa” meaning foods made with eggs. Members are encouraged to attend. The Thule Lodge, now into its 106th year in this area, continues to preserve the Swedish heritage through events and activities. New members are always welcome.

Benefit Set For Sunday

A benefit for Anna Raynor, whose daughter was killed in a sledding accident, will host a spaghetti dinner benefit from 1-4 p.m. Sunday at the Ashville Fire Hall. There will be a disc jockey and Chinese auction. Tickets are $8 for adults and $4 for children. The public is welcome to attend.

St. Patrick’s Day Dinner Planned

LEON – The Celebration Fellowship Church, intersection of Route 62 and Cherry Creek Hill, Leon, will hold a St. Patrick’s Day dinner from noon to 2 p.m. Sunday. Featured will be corned beef and cabbage and homemade desserts. Takeouts will be available.

Movie Event Set For Saturday

Farmland Board To Meet March 19

GREAT VALLEY – The Cattaraugus County Agricultural and Farmland Protection Board will host a discussion about the future of agriculture in Cattaraugus County at 7 p.m. March 19 in the Great Valley Town Hall. A panel of local experts will each give brief comments on their view of the current status of agricultural in Cattaraugus County and the region. JCA To Present Guitarist Friday

Pancake Breakfast Set For Sunday

South Dayton Boy Scout Troop 257 and Venture Crew 257 will be holding an all-you-can-eat pancake breakfast on Sunday. This breakfast will be held at the South Dayton Fire Company Activities Hall from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Children 4 and under are free; ages 5 to 12 will be $5; anyone 13 and over will be $8. Poetry Reading Slated For Olean

Dinner Benefit Set For Saturday

HARTFIELD – A spaghetti dinner benefit will be held for Pam Smith from 4-7 p.m. Saturday, in the Hartfield Fire hall, Elmwood Road, Hartfield, to help with medical expenses for a recent surgery done by a surgeon in Texas. M.S. Group To Hold ‘Rap Session’

Meet the candidates for the Lakewood trustee positions has been rescheduled for Friday, March 15, at the Busti-Lakewood Rec. Speaker Series Continues Tuesday

BEMUS POINT – The Bemus Point Historical Society Guest Speaker Series continues on Tuesday. Kate Gross, Midway and Long Point state parks superintendent, will be discussing the future of the state parks in Chautauqua County. Senior Report To Host Ferguson

MAYVILLE – “Senior Report with Reed Powers” will have Mike Ferguson as the guest on Saturday. Ferguson is the director of marketing for Merritt Winery. John Hamels will guest host the show. The live, call-in program airs from 9-10 a.m. Individuals may call 753-5225 during that time with questions, comments or a shout-out. The program is rebroadcast each day at 2 and 8 p.m. for some communities. Powers has been producing the television program since 1995. The series highlights senior citizen club news for 15 minutes with the remainder of the hour-long program devoted to the featured guest. The guest is subject to change. Westfield GOP To Host Dinner

WESTFIELD – The Westfield Town Republican Committee is sponsoring a meet the candidates spaghetti dinner from 5-7 p.m. on Tuesday at the Assembly of God Church, Main Street, Westfield. Thrift Shop To Hold Spring Sale

With spring just around the corner, St. Luke’s Thrift Shop, 409 Pine St., Jamestown, is having a half-price sale on all remaining merchandise throughout the shop except household items, jewelry and merchandise that is already reduced. The shop is open 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Thursday and Friday and 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday for sales and for receiving. Items may also be dropped off 9 a.m. to noon on Tuesdays. Off-street parking is available in the church lot located off East Fifth Street. Proceeds from the shop, which is run by volunteers from St. Luke’s Episcopal Church as well as RSVP and the community, are donated to local outreach programs.

BBCA To Hold Lasagna Dinner

Bethel Baptist Christian Academy will be holding its annual lasagna dinner and talent show on March 15. AARP Meetings To Be Held

Jamestown AARP Board of Directors will meet Thursday in the parlors of First Lutheran Church at 10 a.m. The general meeting at the same location will be on Tuesday, March 12, at 1:30 p.m. Cashana Sims, of Five Star Urgent Care, will present the program. 2013 dues, at $6 per member, are due and may be paid either in cash or by check.
