Philadelphia to Host Six 2026 World Cup Games, Including July 4th Round of 16 Match

With the MLB All-Star Game, the United States 250th birthday celebration, and now, six World Cup games, the summer of 2026 is about to be a busy one in the City of Brotherly Love.

Philadelphia is set to host six matches at the upcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup, including one round-of-16 matchup. All games will be played at Lincoln Financial Field, home of the Philadelphia Eagles.

As soccer continues to grow in popularity in Philadelphia, reinforced by Philadelphia Union’s appearances in the MLS Cup Final in 2022, many Pennsylvania sports betting sites consistently feature odds and stats for the exciting game.

Philadelphia is gearing up to host five World Cup matches, starting on June 14, with additional games on June 19, June 22, June 25, and June 27. While the city won’t see any action during the Round of 32, it will host an exciting Round of 16 match on July 4, the same day as the United States’ 250th Birthday in what will surely be a historic event for the city.

“The match schedule for FIFA World Cup 26′ showcases the scope of what 2026 will mean for our communities, our City, and the Commonwealth as a whole,” said Philadelphia Soccer 2026 Chairman and Comcast Spectacor Chairman and CEO Daniel J. Hilferty. “This is not just a tournament, but the largest sporting event ever, and an extraordinary opportunity to showcase our vibrant culture, our hospitality, our passion, and our grit on an international stage.”

The 2026 World Cup in Philadelphia and elsewhere is a special one, being jointly hosted by the United States, Mexico, and Canada. The action kicks off on June 11 at Mexico City’s Estadio Azteca and it wraps up on July 19 at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey, the home of New York’s sports teams, the New York Jets and the New York Giants. Canada’s national team starts its journey on June 12 in Toronto, and the U.S. team plays the same day in LA’s SoFi Stadium.

The 2026 World Cup is making history with its expanded lineup of 48 nations, up from the usual 32. This means more teams, more matches, and more group-stage drama, with 32 teams moving on to the knockout rounds. This expansion not only spices up the tournament but also means more hosting opportunities, a big win for cities like Philly.

As for the match breakdown, the U.S. will host a whopping 78 games, while Mexico and Canada will each host 13. Unfortunately, among the U.S. cities, Philly is one of only four to land six games and is one of just hosting a mere single knockout match. But, Philly denizens can take solace in the fact that they’re hosting games at all while cities like Washington D.C. saw their bids fall short, and others like Chicago did not even bid at all.

While it might not be quite as many games as Philly natives would have wanted at the end of the day, the 2026 World Cup still presents a unique opportunity to showcase the city’s vibrant culture and hospitality on a global stage.
