Shopping With Your Husband Is A Mixed Bag

The best way I can describe my husband is that he’s like an old hippie. Not that he is really old and he was never a true hippie as we’d imagine one to be. He was, after all, a very good student his whole life, was an excellent running back in high school and was actually accepted into a pre-med program in college, although he never became a doctor. So, he doesn’t really qualify as a hippie, but he’s just older enough than I am to have picked up some hippie qualities in his steadfast travels through the 1960s. For example, he’s an excellent guitar player. He’s extremely ...

Trump: The Good, Bad And Ugly

President Donald Trump “saved the United States,” says former Trump adviser Steve Bannon. He’s one of the “smartest, most clever, and successful” presidents, says Fox’s Jeanine Pirro. No, he’s “dumb and racist,” says comedian Seth Meyers, and guilty of “rampant corruption,” say commentators on MSNBC. The man divides opinion like no one else in America. My latest video looks at the “good, bad and ugly” of Trump. The good is wonderful. Unemployment is down, and the stock market is up. Trump deserves credit for that. By criticizing “job-crushing ...

The Good Life: Smaller Towns Get More Tourists

A part of what most of America knows as the Florida Panhandle has a closer-to-home nickname: “The Forgotten Coast.” That is a misnomer. The area is chiefly Franklin County almost directly south of the state capital of Tallahassee. It includes four communities that, by any measure, are smallish. From west to east, they are Apalachicola, population about 2,200; St. George Island, a barrier island that is 28 miles long but less than a mile wide, with just 800 or so permanent residents; Eastpoint, 2,300; Carrabelle, 2,500. The entire county is listed at just below 12,000 in ...

The American Dream Is Back On Its Track

If you watched the State of the Union address Tuesday night, then there’s no denying President Donald Trump is delivering a broad spectrum of victories for the American people. Don’t let power-obsessed Democrats or the fake news media fool you. On the jobs front, the Trump administration has created almost 7 million to date — including 500,000 manufacturing jobs — ushering in a blue-collar boom where wages are growing faster for workers than managers, shrinking the income inequality gap. The latest blowout jobs report reflects a golden age of prosperity. “Private ...

Canine Companion: Growling Is A Form Of Communitcation

This week I sat here wondering what I should talk to you about in today’s column. You know, sometimes there’s just so much on your mind that you just have a list running through your mind, that’s been me this week. I did have a question come in this week, though. And, it was quite an interesting one. A question I address quite frequently actually. When a dog growls, as dog lovers, we often quickly tell our dog to stop growling and redirect her attention. The redirection is good, but growling isn’t a bad thing. So, today we are going to briefly discuss each type of growl. ...

What A State Of Our Union

Well, I’ve finally attended a Trump rally. I thought I was showing up for Tuesday’s State of the Union address, but as soon as Donald Trump refused to shake House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s hand, it was clear that even basic protocol would elude this impeached president. Trump’s leash of propriety, already threadbare, has snapped in two. After the spectacle of Tuesday night on the House floor, it’s clear his Republican enablers have decided to feed the beast. I sat in the gallery, surrounded mostly by white male Trump voters. A handful of people nearest me were black, and ...
