Welcome To Daylight Savings Time

From Dave Barry, March 11, 2018, quoting a letter to the editor in The Des Moines (Iowa) Register: “The snow is melting faster because of daylight savings time. There is the same amount of sunlight, but the extra hour of afternoon sun is warmer than the hour of morning sun. Go back to standard time and the melting will slow down and less flooding. Problem solved.” Is it just my February brain or do you too have to stop to reread this and then THINK why doesn’t this make sense? The feeling around here was universal: I don’t even mind the rain — well, it’s better than snow ...

Aida And Her Recent History Of Pain

Last article, we met Aida, a married woman working in the corporate world. Her job called for travel and time away from home. Steven, her husband, works at home and is essentially a house husband. They have three grown children on their own and one that still resides at home. Aida focused attention. on a recent history of pain. Onset was approximately nine months ago. What Are You Waiting For?

What are you waiting for? Now, don't get me wrong, having things to look forward to and be excited about is great, but at the same time you could be missing out on this moment. Quick Bread Recipes Are Handy

Today I have chosen to write about quick breads. They have earned that name because they are quick to make. There is no yeast involved, only baking soda as the leavening agent. I prefer to make my own quick breads, but have resorted to mixes every once in a while. I like the mixes with blueberries, but have used frozen berries only slightly thawed. My favorite quick bread to make is banana bread. My grandmother used to make that all the time and I have her recipe. Grandma probably made banana bread for the same reason I made it this morning. I had some bananas that should we say were ...

When Daycare Is Too Expensive

South Carolina mom Debra Harrell worked at McDonald’s. She couldn’t afford day care for Regina, her 9-year-old daughter, so she took her to work. But Regina was bored at McDonald’s. One day, she asked if she could just play in the neighborhood park instead. “I felt safe there,” tells me in my new video, “because I was with my friends and their parents.” “She had her cellphone, a pocketbook with money in it,” says Debra. “She had everything she needed.” Regina was happy. Debra was happy. But one parent asked Regina where her mom was, and then called the ...

There Must Be Judicial Reform Of FISA Soon

Not a single member of Congress should reauthorize the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act program that’s coming up for a vote mid-March unless significant reforms are made that protect Americans’ civil liberties and privacy. This includes protections for the current president of the United States, and future administrations and their associates, who should never be spied on for illegitimate and political purposes like we saw during the FBI’s Crossfire Hurricane operation against Donald Trump and his campaign in the lead up to the 2016 election. “They spied on the Trump ...
