Only Time Will Tell

ı ı ı “Only time will tell, If I am right or I am wrong, Only time will tell, is there a message in this song. Will it ever make sense, will it ever ring a bell, Only time will tell.” ı ı ı These are the chorus lyrics of Jimmy Buffett’s hit song, “Only Time Will Tell,” included on his 1996 released album Banana Wind. The title may be the only answer we can come up with as to the coronavirus concern facing us these days. Many have been meeting, discussing, brainstorming, adjusting, 24/7, trying to come up with whatever they feel might diminish the spread of ...

During Quarantine, Find Things To Pass Time

Today as I was on my way home, I listened to the radio. I heard a song that brought the present dilemma into perspective. The song said, “He is in the eye of the storm, He is in the middle of the war, He is the anchor.” That is how I sincerely feel. God is in control. Will people get sick? Yes, people will get sick. Will some people die? Of course, they will. Where is God in all of this? He is beside you. He is before you. He is behind you. He has promised that he will never leave you. When my husband got sick, I did not ask why me? Why him? I simply gave it to the Lord. In this ...

Cat Watching Has Become A Favorite Activity

Last summer, a feral cat had kittens and my neighbors started feeding them. At one point, I was asked how to get rid of the cats. “Stop feeding them,” I answered. Since that was not an option for them, they trapped all the cats, including the mother and father, and had them all spayed or neutered. Instead of getting rid of them, they let them stay. Since then, I’ve enjoyed watching the kittens grow up. Two or three are black and white, one is a gorgeous tabby with a lovely swirl of a black target on its side, and there’s a black one with each paw barely dipped in white. ...

April 1st, A Day For Practical Jokes

April 1st is a day for practical jokes in many countries around the world. In honor of this, I have decided to list a few of the pranks I carried out at work. One day I super glued a quarter to the floor in front of the coffee machine in the lunch room. My buddies and I then sat down at a table and watched. People would notice it and looked around to see if anyone was watching them. They would then try to pick it up. One guy even tried to kick it with his heel. They knew they had been had when they would hear us all laughing. This was good for a full day of laughs for only a quarter. ...

The Red Tape Pandemic

Coronavirus is frightening. I’m working from home, practicing “social distancing.” Experts say it’ll help “flatten the curve” so fewer people will be infected simultaneously. Then hospitals won’t be overwhelmed. But the infection rate grows. Doctors and hospitals may yet be overwhelmed. It didn’t have to get to this point. Coronavirus deaths leveled off in South Korea. That’s because people in Korea could easily find out if they had the disease. There are hundreds of testing locations — even pop-up drive-thru testing centers. Because Koreans got tested, ...

The Good Life: Quarantines, Then And Now — Yuck

Geezer columnists throughout the country are writing “I was quarantined as a child” columns. Some details might be relevant, even useful, to today’s younger readers. We have been told a lot about how to supposedly stay healthy during the lockdowns revolving around the COVID-19 coronavirus. But it is an entirely different matter to be confined within a house after someone becomes actively sick. The “Quarantined” sign went up on our front porch twice, as I recall. Once was yellow, for chicken pox. I had it. The other was orange or red, for the mumps. My father had that. A ...
