GLPP Adds Two Minimally Invasive Procedure Surgeons

Dr. James Fitzgerald and Dr. Brian Mata have both joined the Great Lakes Physician Practice offering minimally invasive surgeries and treatment of conditions that affect the knees, shoulders, hips, hands and wrists.

Fitzgerald grew up in Western New York and has practiced in the region for more than 30 years, most recently at the Lakeshore Orthopedic Group. He has performed more than 3,000 joint replacements. A graduate of the Georgetown University School of Medicine, he completed his residency at the SUNY Upstate Medical Center in Syracuse. He completed an orthopaedic hand surgical fellowship at the State University at Buffalo Medical School.

Mata, also a local native, has been practicing in the area for four years. He received his medical degree from the Duke University School of Medicine where he also completed an orthopaedic surgical residency.

Currently the U.S. Lacrosse Team physician, he also provided coverage for the Washington National professional baseball team and the NFL’s Baltimore Ravens along with many college sports team after completing a sport medicine fellowship with MedStar Union Memorial Hospital in Baltimore, Maryland. Locally, he cares for local high school athletes as well as State University at Fredonia athletes.
