Bemus Point Woman Has A Passion For Animals

Amber Drake

Editor’s Note: The Post-Journal will be running a bi-weekly column by Amber Drake.

Hello, readers! My name is Amber Drake. I reside in the Bemus Point area with my husband, Tyler, and our two little boys, Brayden (4) and John (1). I enjoy reading the columns in our newspaper to learn more about local news and opportunities to help our community. This column, published bi-weekly, will discuss a variety of pet topics, particularly dog-related topics, for those who wish to learn more about dogs or perhaps learn more about their own dog. I will discuss common behavioral issues many dog owners experience, canine nutrition, dogs in the news and basic care for your canine companion. The dog is truly our best friend and my goal is to help people understand their dog as much as possible. I would like to first provide you with an introduction about myself.

I have had a passion for animal behavior and veterinary science since I was a young child. Since then, I have made it my mission to help pets and pet owners as much as I possibly can. I graduated high school at a young age and went directly to college. I complete as many seminars, continuing education courses and credit courses as I possibly can. I am also involved in volunteering with struggling rescue organizations to assist them in their growth as many are unable to afford a canine behaviorist within their budget when first starting. I also have two books published with Barnes and Noble regarding canine behavior and training at low-cost available for the average dog owner.

I have been heavily involved with canine behavior for approximately 11 years. I have earned over 12,000 volunteer hours in veterinary medicine, canine behavior and animal husbandry. I own a local business, Canine Companions Boarding and Rehabilitation Services, in Bemus Point, New York. Although the business is located here, in our community, my clients are located in all areas of the United States. I work not only with clients, but companies as well, ranging from small organizations to large-scale corporations. In addition to writing this column, I develop and write content for PetPremium located in New York City, and PetFirst located in Indiana. I am a Board Member for SaveARescue.org where I am responsible for assisting with the growth of the organization. SaveARescue’s mission is to save as many dogs and cats in kill shelters as possible. I am also an Adjunct Instructor of Biology at Jamestown Community College and an Adjunct Professor of General Education at Kaplan University.

In regard to my education, I have a Doctor of Education (ABD) from Northcentral University, an Educational Specialist Post-Masters certification from Northcentral University, a Master of Education from Ashford University and a Bachelor of Science in Biology from SUNY Fredonia. I am currently pursuing a Master of Science in Environmental Law and Policy with Kaplan University to further my knowledge in the field. I have completed coursework in Pre-Veterinary Medicine at Cornell University, Veterinary Technology at Penn Foster College and Biochemistry at UC Berkeley.

If you would like to learn more about me, please feel free to visit my webpage at www.AmberLDrake.org. If you have any questions from any of my columns, please feel free to contact me. I would be happy to write on any topics which you, the readers, would like to learn about.
