Fifty-six members of the Harmony Senior Citizens met Dec. 5 at noon at the Panama United Methodist Church.

While waiting to be served a delicious ham dinner complete with mashed potatoes and gravy, carrots, jello salad roll and homemade apple pie, Santa appeared and delivered a gift to every member present.

Beverly Smith welcomed everyone and wished them a Merry Christmas. Lois King, Chaplain read “Searching” led the flag salute and offered the dinner prayer.

Birthdays were celebrated by Melvin Lord, Cherryl Morrison, Stephen Rauynor, Eloise Smith, Tom Smith, Lyle Walker and Marie Dole, eldest member present. Anniversaries were celebrated by Don and Mary Lou Garfield and Lyle and Janet Walker.

As Beverly Smith, president had not received any names of individuals in the Panama area to be recipients of the white gift for the Christmas season, a discussion was held with several suggestions for the cash donation. A motion was made and approved to donate the $100 white gift amount to the Panama United Methodist Church for their “white gift fund.”

Dottie Enlow reported of the recent bus trip to Niagara Falls for the Festival of Lights and the visit to the Butterfly Conservatory.

She is in the process of working on trips for the 2020 year. A question was raised about the money donated by the town of Harmony.

Dottie stated the donation is to be used solely to subsidize the one day trips for the Harmony Seniors.

The next meeting is scheduled for Jan. 2 at noon in the Panama United Methodist Church.

The menu will be homemade soup, sandwiches, rolls and chips. Soup bowls will be provided but members are asked to bring their own table service and silverware.

There is no cost for the meal.

New members are encourage to attend. Reminder, if the Panama School District is closed due to weather, the meeting is automatically canceled.
