Many Older Adults Need Community Helpers

Many people need a bit of extra help when living alone in the community. The Beatles song says it all: “I get by with a little help from my friends…” (Beatles, 1967).

The Office for the Aging in Chautauqua County compiles and provides to the public a private provider list. The list is a public service and a tool for people in community who may be looking for some additional help in the home. Services may be arranged with a private provider like light and heavy housekeeping, errand running and yard work or handyman services. In addition to using this private provider list, you can also contact your Church families, call the local youth groups or schools and even look at a professional property management company to see what they can offer in the way of services for your home maintenance and yard work. Community organizations may be able to help with chores or lawn care help.

Spring is finally here and summer will sneak up on us all quickly! Yard work and maintenance work around the house is a big need for people that can’t do these things by themselves anymore.

If you are interested in adding your services to the Chautauqua County private provider list, you can call NY Connects to obtain an application form. There is a need for more individuals willing to hire on to do lawn, yard and home maintenance projects all year long.

As with all services, users of the private provider list are highly recommended to ask for and check personal references. The user assumes full risk of hiring and entering into an agreement with the provider for services. The list is just that – a list of people available for hire. Chautauqua County makes no representations as to the qualifications or character of the individuals on the list. All people who apply to be added to the private provider list pay a fee and receive local sheriffs back ground check before being added to the Chautauqua County private provider list. You should always know something about who you are hiring and what their qualifications are to do the work you are in need of. The Beatles, once again! “..Mm, gonna try with a little help from my friends..” ( Beatles, 1967).
