OFA Hosts Recertification, New Instructor Training

The Office for the Aging recently hosted a recertification training and new instructor training for Tai Chi for Arthritis.

The instructors came from Albany and Toledo, Ohio, to instruct over 25 Tai Chi students. The program is approved and certified through the Tai Chi for Health Institute and was created by Dr. Paul Lam along with medical and Tai Chi experts.

The Chautauqua County Office for the Aging is bringing this proven successful program to the county to help reduce the risk of falls. Among older adults falls are the leading cause of both nonfatal and fatal injuries. Tai Chi has been proven to helps increase balance strength and mobility.

The Office for the Aging will be providing Tai Chi for Arthritis classes throughout the county at no cost to older adults. For more information on where classes will be held, contact the NY Connects helpline at 753-4582, 661-7582 or 363-4582.
