Grant Given To Administer Seniors Education Program

The Chautauqua County Office for the Aging’s Senior Nutrition Program was given a grant to administer the “Seniors’ Health Improvement and Nutrition Education Program.” This initiative is funded through the state Office of Temporary Disability Assistance in partnership with the Office for the Aging.

Material is funded by USDA’s Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program. The goal of this program is to increase the number of lower income older adults receiving nutrition education in order to promote healthier lifestyles and behaviors. Eat Healthy, Be Active Community Workshops will be offered throughout the coming year and will help guide those involved in making small changes in food choices and physical activity that make a large difference in overall health and maintaining a healthy weight.

Topics which will be covered in the workshops include: enjoy healthy food that tastes great, quick, healthy meals and snacks, eating healthy on a budget and making healthy eating part of your total lifestyle. Workshops are interactive and include taste-testing sample products and meals, gifts, prizes and simple physical activities for hands on learning that will lead to lasting lifestyle changes. Sessions include four one-hour-long workshops each week for four weeks at no cost to attend.

Please contact NY Connects at 753-4582 for those interested in attending workshop sessions.
