Middle School Art Club Provides Online Creativity, Fun

The opportunity of participating in the Persell Middle School Art Club may look and feel a bit different this year, but students would agree that it’s still a lot of fun.

“I like Art Club because we get to make different types of crafts and it’s a lot of fun,” said Persell fifth grader, Addison Buck. “Mrs. Tehan is the best art teacher ever!”

Art club is held via Zoom after school for any fifth through eighth grader who would like to participate. All members are part of a Google classroom where their adviser, Michela Tehan, posts important information about upcoming meetings. Mrs. Tehan gathers supplies that will be needed for the activity/project they will be completing, and makes sure it’s available to both in-person students, as well as totally remote students. Students pick up their materials and bring them home for their Zoom meeting. Students find the Art Club Zoom link on their Google classroom, and join in to see all of the members together, along with Mrs. Tehan. The project, led by Mrs. Tehan, usually is completed in under an hour.

This month, the Art Club created four-leaf clover paper sculptures.

“I feel really lucky to be able to provide Art Club instruction while students are at home,” said Mrs. Tehan. “Art Club is just as much a social and fun opportunity for kids as a creative outlet to make art!”
