JPS Partners With Community To Provide Childcare

Children played with a puzzle during childcare at Ring Elementary School.

While classes are canceled for Jamestown Public School students, we understand the importance of childcare for families of essential workers and our healthcare and first responders. We have worked with our community partners who can provide childcare for students whose parents cannot be excused from work at this time.

“I want to thank our community partners, Jamestown YWCA and Jamestown Area YMCA,” said Amanda Gesing, JPS Grants and Community Liaison. “Gina Bloomquist and Shane Monroe stepped into action as soon as the long-term closure was announced and tirelessly worked to create a new program following state mandates, as well as adding the recommended additional precautions for COVID19. I would also like to thank the staff working in the sites who lovingly provide care for these kids when families need it most. I am always in awe of our community’s willingness to partner with the school district to assist our youth and families. This sudden closure showed just how dedicated our district and our community agencies are to our community.”

Childcare services are provided Monday through Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the following locations:

¯ Ring Elementary School by the YMCA and Fletcher Elementary School by the YWCA, for children in grades K-5

¯ YWCA, A Children’s Place and Chautauqua Opportunities provide childcare for any JPS student ages 3 and 4.

¯ Jamestown Public Schools also provides breakfast and lunch for our childcare program participants.

Our community has provided great support during this time too. A recent donation by the Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Jamestown, of over 60 books covering all grade levels, is helping our kids in childcare enjoying reading. Each child will also be able to choose a book to take home.

Our community childcare program still has spaces available. Priority is given to parents who work in healthcare, public safety and first responders. If you have a child age 3 to 11 and are in need of childcare, please reach out to childcare@jpsny.org or call 203-1539 for information.
