Clinton V. Bush served as the fifth superintendent of the Jamestown Public Schools from 1938 to 1946. Born in Kennedy, Bush biked from his home in the village east of Falconer to attend the original Jamestown High School. After graduating from JHS in 1905, he attended Rochester Mechanics Institute -- now Rochester Institute of Technology. After teaching stints in Ithaca and Tonawanda, he returned to Jamestown in 1924 as the director of industrial education and served as principal of the district's vocational school and part-time school. In 1930 he became director of evening schools and extension education and in 1932 was appointed to serve as assistant superintendent under George A. Persell. Bush was instrumental in planning the development of the new Jamestown High School's industrial arts building as well as additions to the district's three junior high schools. For his contributions to public education in Jamestown, the new "Clinton V. Bush Elementary School" was named in his honor upon its opening in 1956.
