Finding Her Place At The Y

Sitivia Allen

When one thinks of a YMCA it may conjure up thoughts of fitness classes, gyms and pools, or even camps and youth programing. At the Jamestown Area YMCA, the fitness classes and fitness instructors are all topnotch and of the highest caliber around.

‘Enter stage left’ and this week’s “Instructor Spotlight” rests on Sitivia Allen.

Allen, a longtime Y member, has found her place at the Jamestown Y — a place she’s called her own since 2012.

“I started out in the teen center (Downtown Branch) since I was a sophomore in high school,” Allen said.

The Y, as it always has, embraces all who choose to better themselves and Allen is no different.

“I wanted to take a Zumba class, and Sue Gullo was the instructor,” Allen said. “I was thankful the teen center let me take her class because it helped me be happy.”

Fast-forward to present day, the now certified Zumba instructor, Allen, (since 2017) is leading the charge for those wishing to better themselves by using Zumba as the vehicle which drives a healthy living lifestyle.

“Zumba was and still is my happy place; it was one of the best choices I’ve ever made,” Allen said.

Sitivia’s summer Zumba classes will be held at the Jamestown Y’s Downtown Branch, 9:30-10:30 a.m. on Wednesdays, beginning June 27.
