WRFA-LP 107.9 FM’s “Rolling Hills Radio” is proud to host a national treasure in the presentation of its 63rd episode next week.

On Thursday, April 27, the program will feature an interview and live performance by singer-songwriter Tom Chapin, nationally renowned for his child-centric and environmentally conscious music, beginning at 6:30 p.m. at the Robert H. Jackson Center’s Carl Cappa Theater.

“We’re anticipating quite an evening of entertainment,” said Ken Hardley, program host. “Tom can do anything with a crowd because he’s a real professional, and I think that comes largely from his genuine nature. Nothing about his shows are scripted or glitzy, in fact he embodies the opposite of that; Tom and the rest of the Chapin family have a way of genuinely captivating an audience.”

In a career that spans five decades, 24 albums and three GRAMMY awards, Chapin has covered an incredible amount of creative ground. In addition to his work as a recording artist and concert performer, Chapin has acted on Broadway and worked extensively in films, television and radio.

As a music-maker, he has maintained two long and productive parallel careers, both as a highly respected contemporary folk artist and as a pioneer in the field of children’s music. In both roles, Chapin has established a reputation for insightful, heartfelt songcraft and effortlessly charismatic live performances.

Although Chapin has previously performed in and around the Jamestown area on several occasions, his upcoming appearance on “Rolling Hills Radio” will be his first visit to Jamestown in that capacity.

“We’re looking forward to having Tom for a number of reasons, among them the fact that he had visited our show when his daughters (the Chapin Sisters) performed last year and came onstage for an encore performance. He enjoyed the experience enough to have his people contact me a couple months later about setting up a show for himself,” Hardley said. “He also kind of personifies the music that we love to showcase, and that speaks to our mission, as well.”

Doors to the live show will open at 5:30 p.m., when a pre-show reception known as “Rolling Happy Hour” will commence. The program’s live taping will begin at 6:30 p.m., and a meet-and-greet will immediately follow.

The “Rolling Hills Radio” program is broadcast each Thursday at 7 p.m. on WRFA-LP 107.9 FM, with new episodes being introduced the week following their live taping.
