Jamestown AAUW To Hold 61st What’s New Fair Nov. 19-20

The Jamestown Branch of the American Association of University Women (AAUW) will hold its 61st annual AAUW What’s New Fair from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 19, and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 20, at the Hamilton Collegiate Center on the Jamestown Community College campus in Jamestown.

The Jamestown Branch of the American Association of University Women (AAUW) will hold its 61st annual AAUW What’s New Fair from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 19, and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 20, at the Hamilton Collegiate Center on the Jamestown Community College campus in Jamestown.

The two-day event features more than 50 merchants and vendors displaying new products and services in time for the forthcoming holiday season. Admission is $3 for adults, $1 for JCC/JBC students with identification and $1 for children ages 6-12. Children five and under are admitted free. Ample parking is available on the JCC campus.  Proceeds go to scholarships for JCC and Jamestown Business College female graduates who are going on to earn their four-year degrees.

In addition to the large number of merchants, Santa and Mrs. Claus will visit each day and be available to chat with children and adults who wish to confide their Christmas wishes.  The AAUW organization will feature a table of handmade and other items.  The AAUW Sweet Shoppe offers a variety of homemade baked goods ranging from small breads, fudge, pies, candies to cookies. Door prizes from participating merchants will be given away each hour and the winner must be present to win. The AAUW Gingerbread House supplies attendees with personalized gingerbread men at $3 each; 2 for $5; or 3 for $8. Food is available through the JCC Food Service. They will sell homemade soups and chili, macaroni and cheese, assorted sandwiches and wraps including chicken salad, tuna salad, side salads, chips, soft drinks, coffee and tea.

A reduced priced AAUW Jamestown Branch membership of $45.50 will be available at the Fair for a membership through June 30, 2017. The regular price is $70. Checks and cash will be accepted.  Prospective members must have a two year degree or higher to join AAUW.

AAUW also runs a What’s New Fair giveaway. Tickets cost $1 per ticket, $5 for seven tickets or $10 for 20 tickets. Prizes are from local merchants, restaurants, and other organizations. There are a variety of baskets (Ryders Cup of NY; JB Liquor Shoppe; Basket Company; Chautauqua Watershed Conservancy; Lakewood Apothecary and Natural Health Center; Eight Limbs Wellness Studio; JCC Bookstore; Roger Tory Peterson Institute; Cala Lily Yarn Shop; Off the Beaten Path) and gift certificates (The Pub; Snap Fitness; Cynthia Schalk Massage Therapy; Forte Restaurant; Salon 2000; Fenton Historical; See Zurh House; Hare n Hound; White Carrot; Cardinale Acupuncture); and a silk flower arrangement from Girton’s Flowers.  Winners do not have to be present to win.
