Jamestown Musician To Release Third Full-Length Album

Mike Brunacini is setting the stage for the release of what he is calling his finest work yet.

The Jamestown musician, a 2009 graduate from Jamestown High School, has written and recorded the material that will compile his third full-length album, “Cherry Springs,” which he will make available for public consumption in November.

A self-professed “piano man,” Brunacini said his latest work will mark a bit of a departure from his previous efforts – 2013’s “Breakup at Allen Park” and 2014’s “Artificial Individual” – in that the majority of the tracks are largely guitar-driven. Coupled with the fact that the songs are also more upbeat in tempo and tone, he said “Cherry Springs” is an indication that he is starting to hit his stride as a songwriter.

“The material is of the power-pop genre, and is more upbeat than my previous albums,” Brunacini said. “An easy way to describe it for my current fans would be if you took the pop sensibilities of ‘Breakup At Allen Park’ and the lyrical maturity of ‘Artificial Individual’ and melded them together. It’s a very melodic album; I was going for good melodies and lyrics that don’t necessarily have to do with me as much as convey a good story.”

“Cherry Springs” will consist of 12 tracks written by Brunacini with the exception of the final track, “Departed Light,” which he co-wrote with Paul Jackino. Because he mostly wrote the album on guitar rather than piano, only three to four of the 12 songs are piano-driven.

Another distinguishing characteristic of the album is the songs contained therein are meant to be enjoyed individually rather than collectively, as was the case with Brunacini’s first two releases as concept albums. He said each song on “Cherry Springs” is a story within itself.

“I essentially tried to take either a character or moment and discuss that moment or character within the context of a single song,” he said. “And I tried to make it as emotional as possible because there’s just something about trying to find a complex level of emotion in each song.”

While the album has been mastered and is essentially ready for a digital release, Brunacini has created a Kickstarter campaign in order to raise money for a physical CD release. He is seeking $500 and has already received more than half of that amount in only a matter of days.

“The whole reason I did a Kickstarter is because I didn’t know if a physical CD was desirable to people anymore,” he said. “I’m essentially treating it as a pre-order. If people want a CD, they can make a donation to the campaign and I’ll know that they want a copy. If I don’t raise enough then nobody’s money will be taken and I’ll do a strictly digital release.”

There are 17 days remaining in the Kickstarter campaign, which can be found at kickstarter.com/projects/83308720/mike-brunacini-cherry-springs, or by visiting kickstarter.com and searching for “Mike Brunacini.”

Brunacini also wished to thank the following people for their support in the production of “Cherry Springs”: Rebecca Boone, who painted the album cover; Dan Davis, who contributed bass tracks and drum production; Jeremy Little, who played an electronic drum kit that was then digitized for inclusion on the album; Doug White of Watchmen Studios in Lockport, who mixed and mastered the album; Paul Schermerhorn, who directed, edited and filmed a music video for “Carousel’s Song” – which will launch as a Kickstarter exclusive before it is posted to YouTube; and his wife, Kristen, who provided lead and backup vocals as well as flute on two tracks.

Brunacini’s next performance will be as part of Infinity Visual and Performing Arts’ Local Music Showcase, which will be held on Saturday, Sept. 10. His performance will take place at the Wine Cellar from 9:30-10:30 p.m.
