Illusionist Jason Bishop Returns To Jamestown In Saturday Performance

America’s hottest illusionist will make his second appearance in as many years at the Reg Lenna Center for the Arts this weekend.

Jason Bishop, who, along with his assistant, Kim Hess, comprises one of the largest touring magic and illusion shows in the country, will perform a unique blend of original and uniquely modified illusions in an 8 p.m. performance Saturday.

In a 15-illusion show that features either original illusions partially crafted by Bishop himself and rare illusions that are hardly ever performed by anyone, the Jason Bishop Show is guaranteed to offer audience members a memorable encounter with state-of-the-art magic. From his breathtaking Double Levitation to his cutting edge Op-Art and Plasma illusions, Bishop’s virtuosity will take center stage in a show like no other.

Each show features award winning sleight of hand, exclusive grand illusions and close-up magic projected onto a huge movie screen. No other touring illusionist showcases such a diverse array of talents. Additionally, the show is delivered with a totally modern energy along with a rock and pop soundtrack.

According to Bishop, the purpose behind his show goes beyond “wowing” his crowd, but rather aims to transport them to a place of serenity and solace.

“The show does feature magic in its many elements, but there is certainly behind it the idea that you can do anything you set out to do if you want it bad enough and work hard enough to attain it,” Bishop said. “But the biggest thing is that I want people to have fun, which is something I think may be a little lacking in theater these days. We all have stress in our lives, so this is an opportunity for people to have some escapism for a while; to come out and be amazed and see stuff they haven’t seen before, or see technology used in different ways and just enjoy themselves for an hour-and-a-half.”

In his show, Bishop cuts through the usual hype and focuses on entertaining audiences with one remarkable illusion after another. Each routine is presented in his unique style. Some pieces feature more laughs than are typically expected from an illusionist, while other effects literally demonstrate sleight of hand skill performed at a world-class level. Bishop consistently engages the audience on and offstage with imaginative choreography, intelligent lighting, perfectly timed music and countless costume changes undertaken by Hess throughout the performance.

The Jason Bishop Show, like last season’s Cirque Ziva, will move to New York City in November for an Off-Broadway run at the New Victory Theatre. It is sponsored locally by Comfort Inn of Jamestown and DFT Communications.
