Harmony To Host Annual Fall Fest, Bicentennial Celebration This Weekend

BLOCKVILLE – Harmony’s Fall Festival will be set to the sounds of old-time bluegrass and Americana music as the town hosts its annual event celebrating the changing of the seasons this weekend.

The live music lineup for this year’s event will feature the Bonnie Loch Fiddlers, Old Dawg Bluegrass, Terraplane, and Picks and Hammers in a celebration of of the town’s rural roots and storied history.

The event, hosted by the Harmony Historical Society, will be held Saturday and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. It is being held in conjunction with the town’s bicentennial celebration, which will be held from 5-9 p.m. and will commemorate the town’s 200-year history since its founding in 1816.

The music will kick off Saturday at 1 p.m., when the Bonnie Loch Fiddlers will perform for attendees. Old Dawg Bluegrass will then take the stage for a 2:15 performance and close out the evening. On Sunday, Terraplane will commence the live entertainment at 11 a.m., followed by Picks and Hammers at 1:15 p.m. The sound system for the weekend is being provided by Tim Reed, local musician and current bassist for the band Refuge.

Festivities will begin Friday with a 6:30 p.m. community worship event at the new town gazebo. Activities for the weekend include: weaving, open hearth cooking in the Matson House, a mock school session at the town’s preserved one-room school house, an appearance by 64th Virginia Infantry re-enactors, log hewing, an antique engine display, spinning, tours of the trading post, longbow making, chair caning, blacksmith demonstrations, free carriage rides and tatting. The local Boy Scout troop and some local authors will also be on-site.

Vendors for the festival include: Big Tree Maple, Paduano’s Bee Honey, Linda Mason, Buffone’s Kettle Corn, Falconer Foods chicken barbecue, Garden of Eternity, Robin Miller, Sarah Kelly, Blockville United Methodist Church, Sharon Walker, Ginney Hayes, apples from Whittier Apple Farm, book sales and Grandma’s Attic.

There will be a quilt show, tours of the new library, concessions, a GeoCache event, an information booth, and offerings by the the Butts Barn and local Genealogy Society.

The bicentennial celebration will include food, music and games throughout Saturday evening, and will conclude with the playing of “Taps” at 9 p.m.
