Backyard Birds
The Roger Tory Peterson Institute of Natural History has partnered with renowned photographer Mathew Tekulsky to exhibit 30 of his backyard bird images through March 8. All of the photographs in the exhibition are featured in Tekulsky’s book entitled “Backyard Bird Photography” (Skyhorse Publishing, 2014), from eastern species such as the Ruby-throated Hummingbird, Blue Jay, and American Goldfinch to western species such as the Allen’s Hummingbird, Hooded Oriole, and Western Scrub-Jay. The book is available for purchase in RTPI’s Nature Store. All pieces included in the exhibition are also available for purchase.
In recent years, Tekulsky has dedicated himself to photographing birds in his gardens in the Brentwood Hills of Los Angeles, California, and in Adamant, Vermont. His bird photographs have been displayed in such places as the Harvard Museum of Natural History and the U.S. Department of the Interior Museum, and his bird images have been published in numerous books and magazines. Tekulsky is the author of the “Birdman of Bel Air” column for NationalGeographic.com, and in 2015, Skyhorse Publishing will release his books “The Art of Hummingbird Gardening” and “The Art of Butterfly Gardening,” each of which will include more than 50 of his photographs.
