Area veterans and active military personnel are invited to attend a less-than-common performance at the Reg Lenna Center for the Arts for free.

On Tuesday, the theater will host Cirk La Putyka, a European physical theater company dedicated professionally to the “contemporary circus,” as it presents its production of “Slapstick Sonata” beginning at 7:30 p.m. – and will offer free admission to past and present military members.

“This is the first time we’ve really considered doing something like this,” said Len Barry, director of marketing and communications. “The show is going to be on Veterans Day, and we figured we could afford to give back. So this is our way of thanking our servicemen and servicewomen.”

“Slapstick Sonata” tells the story of nightshift workers at a warehouse in Prague who, upon becoming bored with their mundane work, begin making their own fun by using various warehouse materials as props for performing increasingly intense stunts. Barry said this type of act is not typical of a performance on the Reg Lenna stage, but previous performances, such as that of “Cirque Ziva” in February, have been met with approval from its audience.

“Booking this show was a no-brainer,” Barry said. “It falls in line with what we’re trying to do this season, which is test out different types of shows and see what the public response is like, and I think people are going to leave with a sense of awe after seeing the kinds of stunts (the performers) will be doing onstage.”

Tickets for “Slapstick Sonata” range from $25-$45, while veterans and active military personnel need only show identification at the venue to be admitted. Children 12-and-under will be admitted at half-price tickets, and a limited number of seats in the first few rows of the venue are available to attendees between the ages of 13 and 30 for $10. Barry said the $10 tickets are aimed toward giving the 13-30 demographic a price break on a performance he expects it would get great enjoyment from.

“This is a chance for that group to get a live, professional entertainment experience, that they might not get otherwise, at a great rate,” he said.
