Old Dawg Bluegrass To Perform In Lily Dale Saturday

Old Dawg Bluegrass is set to perform in Lily Dale this Saturday at 8 p.m. This Jamestown-area band brings to Lily Dale the energy of bluegrass music that expresses the exuberance of the American spirit.

“You have to hear this band,” said Norman Carlson, bluegrass record collector and Jamestown area historian. “These guys are good.” Each “old dawg” brings seasoned life experience to bluegrass music

¯ Steve Eng, a retired architect, hails from State College, Pa., and has won several state contests with his hot guitar picking. He sings lead vocals and baritone harmony and speaks for the band.

¯ Steve Strom, an IT specialist, plays mandolin and resonator guitar and almost anything with strings. A member of the locally famous Strom family of musicians, Steve sings tenor and lead.

¯ Mark Davis, a master woodworker, has played bass for several decades with some of the best area bluegrass bands, jazz bands, and orchestras. He formed Old Dawg in 2016.

¯ Bill White, a retired JCC English professor, has been playing string band music since “the sixties.” He sings lead, baritone, and tenor and plays banjo in the style of Earl Scruggs.

For 15 years Old Dawg Bluegrass Band has played throughout western New York and Pennsylvania, including festivals, parks, historical societies, cafes, and theaters. The band is known for its blend of tight, three part vocal harmonies and hot instrumental breaks.

Tickets for this two hour performance are $10. For more information see OldDawgBluegrass.com or LilyDaleAssembly.org.
