Bemus Point Elementary Presents ‘Aristocats Kids’

Bemus Point Elementary school fourth- and fifth-grade Drama Club students are presenting Disney’s “Aristocats Kids.”

The musical was recorded as a musical movie and is now available to be viewed. The student performers will get to watch the premiere live at the Dipson Lakewood Cinemas with their families, and watch it on the big screen.

This year’s musical was created in compliance with COVID restrictions and has persevered and evolved through changing restrictions under the direction and film editing of Kasey Way, Bemus Point Elementary School music teacher and with the help of Mrs. Lindsay Russel, assistant director and choreographer.

The musical Aristocats Kids was originally slated for 2020, and had just begun last year before the shut down. The students in the Bemus Point Elementary School Drama Club continued to meet online weekly for the remainder of the school year to play and create theater together, which culminated with “The Greatest 10 Minute Musical Ever Written,” a musical created specifically for ZOOM during the pandemic by Rob Rockik and Timothy Allen McDonald. The musical is also available for viewing on the Bemus Point Elementary Music Youtube page.

The 2020-21 musical drama club began on Zoom with drama club students meeting multiple times a week to learn acting and theater games. In the fall the Bemus Point Elementary School Drama Club students remotely wrote and performed a multiple episode YouTube series entitled “Operation Capture Santa Clause”. Episodes were released weekly, and can also be viewed on the Bemus Point Elementary Music Youtube page.

Auditions for this year’s musical were submitted online and rehearsals and filming were strategically planned for small groups and cohorts in person. Way’s classroom was turned into a green screen room and filming and recording studio. The students recorded the sound track separately recording their singing in small groups and solo to comply with restrictions and be safe. Twenty students participated, and had a memorable experience making their musical movie. Way said the students look forward to the premiere on the big screen and for their online premiere to share with the family, friends and the community.
