BUFFALO — A three-piece band, all in white, and a full house ready to hear a solid set of music. It was the perfect setup for a 19-song, 1-1/2 hour set by a high-energy artist to give Buffalo a night of great music.

That was exactly what K.Flay did Sept. 21 at The Town Ballroom.

From the first note of “Not in California” to the final ringing note of “Blood in the Cut,” the night had an energy that electrified the place.

In a recent interview with K.Flay, she said she has taken a position of taking control over herself and her attitude. The setlist reflected that perfectly, and her conversation between songs was meant as an uplifting, empowering voice.

Each and every tune, even the cover of a Liz Phair classic about youthful pursuits was given a preface of positivity in that K.Flay used it to tell her story of how the song was an inspiration not once, but twice, and resulted in her finding love in her girlfriend. The stories about how Liz Phair was instrumental in a couple of ways at two distinct points was the perfect example of how music, of any genre, can have the power of personal insight in a multitude of ways.

The stage set of translucent LED platforms and the all-white outfits wore by the band gave the illusion of a sterile environment at various points of the show.

The color LED set the mood and helped in the attitude of many of the songs. It was obvious that, from the platforms to the LED light panels at stage level, K.Flay took great care in making sure everything was perfect and was a representation of exactly what she wanted to portray at each point.

The high-energy show did have a brief break when the three artists took a seat on the platforms and played a short acoustic set.

The sounds that would normally bring a relaxation point to the audience was met with just as much energy and excitement from each person in the venue.

In her interactions with the fans throughout the Ballroom, K.Flay made it feel like a personal evening for everyone there, going so far as to touch hands with people in the front row.
