WACS To Present ‘Newsies’ Friday, Saturday

WESTFIELD — Westfield Academy and Central School will be producing Disney’s “Newsies,” music by Alan Menken, lyrics by Jack Feldman, book by Harvey Fierstein Friday and Saturday in the district auditorium.

“Newsies” is based on the actual story of the 1899 newspaper carrier strike in New York City. Featured in the cast will be Luke Stephenson as Jack; Grace Bodenmiller as Katherine; Austin Presto as Davey; Brad Belmondo as Crutchie; Collin and Cody Hoffman as Les; Sarah Tilley as Medda Larkin; and Brock Schuster as Race.

The production showcases the talents of more than 100 students in grades 7-12, as well as a few teachers and adults from the Westfield school community. It is directed by Kent Knappenberger and choreographed by Chaz Bruce.

Tickets are $7 for adults and $5 for students and senior citizens and are available by calling the school at 3226-2151, ext. 283, or by accessing the online purchase link on the school website: wacs.wnyric.org. Patrons are encouraged to purchase tickets ahead of time, but they will be available at the door. Disney’s “Newsies” is presented through special arrangement with Music Theatre International (MTI), 421 W. 54th St., New York, N.Y.
