JSBA To Present ‘Chuggington LIVE!’ At Reg Lenna April 7

An interactive locomotive experience is in store for area children and their families when “Chuggington LIVE! The Great Rescue Adventure” comes to Jamestown next month.

The live-action musical children’s show, based on the popular television series, rolls into the Reg Lenna Center for the Arts on Tuesday, April 7, at 6:30 p.m. for its Jamestown premiere – giving young fans and their families the opportunity to experience the “train-tastic” adventures of the Chuggington trainees, Wilson, Brewster and Koko.

The brand new production is being presented by the Jamestown Savings Bank Arena, and is part of a national tour that will encompass the eastern half of the country. It showcases trains with working features and movements that bring the Chuggington TV series characters to life on stage in a two-act musical, which will be presented before a giant LED video wall featuring animated locations and background action sequences from the popular TV series.

According to Nick Trussalo, creative director for the JSBA, it was decided by the arena to bring Chuggington to Jamestown in order to expand its entertainment offerings and appeal to a wider audience.

“We were looking for events to book and stumbled across this national tour that Chuggington is doing,” Trussalo said. “We thought it was the perfect show to expand our venue options, and so we rented the Reg Lenna Center for the Arts because it had a stage that would better accommodate the show. The JSBA is still presenting the event.

“It’s a family friendly show that has a ton of appeal for kids,” he added. “There’s a huge difference between seeing the characters on TV and them seeing them live, up-close and in person.”

The premise of the production centers around anthropomorphic train engines, referred to as “trainees,” and their human engineer counterparts. The trainees are eager to impress their mentors by mastering new roles that test their courage, speed and determination. When trainee Koko finds herself in trouble at Rocky Ridge Mine, her friends opt to help her by putting their newly learned skills into practice.

The live production features life-size Chuggington train carriages live on stage, complete with working mouths and eyes. The backdrop for the live show is a video wall featuring animated interactive backgrounds to the live stage action. It is produced by Life Like Touring and Ludorum.

First launched on Disney Junior in 2010, the Chuggington TV series now airs in more than 178 countries and is translated into 36 different languages. In the United States, the TV show can be seen 22 times per week between the Disney Junior and Disney TV channels, with an estimated 2 million viewers every week.

Chuggington LIVE! runs for approximately 75 minutes. More information about the production and its national tour can be found at www.chuggingtonlive.com.
