Walter and Betty (Williams) Abbott will celebrate their 70th wedding anniversary today with a small gathering of family and friends.

They were married April 18, 1953 in Bainbridge, Ga.

The Abbotts raised their five children: Dennis, Dean, Janis, Joyce and Jayne, at their Trask Road home near Jamestown, where the couple resided for 33 years.

Walter retired as a truck driver from S.M. Flickenger/Sysco company after 43 years of service. Betty retired from JCPenney company after working as a sales person/department manager for 15 years. In their retirement they enjoyed traveling throughout the country in their RV for many years. Eventually the couple began spending winters in Florida and summers at the Hidden Valley Campground.

They currently enjoy their 11 grandchildren and spouses, and nine great grandchildren, along with their three daughters and their husbands.
