Jim and Rose Van Volkenburg of Sherman, celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on Saturday, July 4, 2020. at their children’s property on Warner Road, Sherman, with a small gathering of family and friends. They have two children: Amy (Russell) Hayes and Andrew (Andrea) Van Volkenburg. They also have four grandchildren. five- step- grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and two step-great grandchildren.

Van Volkenberg and the former Rose Vanderkooi were married on July 4, 1970, at the Sherman Community Church.

Van Volkenberg retired from the Chautauqua County Department of Public Facilities in September 2002 as a road construction supervisor after 33 years. He presently is an active Town of Sherman Justice, an elective position he has held for 35 years. Mrs. Van Volkenberg finished her career at Panama Central School as secretary to the superintendent and district clerk, retiring July 2013.
