Persell's PBIS (Positive Behavior Interventions & Supports) Universal Team is in its third year implementing a Good Credits Reward Program that rewards students for not only good behavior, but for attendance as well as being successful academically. Data is collected for all students and tracks their attendance, behavior referrals and academic progress. If students meet the criteria of Persell's Good Credit Rewards program, they are rewarded monthly by attending a PBIS-sponsored, fun assembly.
The Universal Team is also implementing three different ways for students to earn a Platinum Ticket, which enters students into a large prize raffle drawing every trimester. One way to achieve a Platinum Ticket or Platinum Status is to have perfect attendance for the month. Another way is to meet a specific, academic, SMART goal each student sets for themselves in their classes on a monthly basis. The third way for students to achieve Platinum Status is to meet a goal set by themselves for an increase in their NWEA test score. The MAP assessments are given three times a year to every student in ELA and Math.
Sometimes a student might just need more help, in an individualized and proactive way, to improve their behavior and attendance. Persell Middle School's PBIS Tier 2 Team, in its second year of implementation, helps these students. The goal of the Tier 2 team is to help students build academic and behavioral responsibility by being safe, respectful, and responsible. Some students are paired with a staff member with whom they can build a positive relationship to support behavioral and academic goals. Data is collected weekly under this program to implement new interventions and supports for our students. Some of these interventions include our Social Academic Intervention Groups (SAIG) where students receive small group instruction on a variety of social, behavioral, or academic topics such as Effective Communication, Problem Solving, and Academic Responsibility.
