The Republican Congress is Shirking Its Responsibilities

To The Reader’s Forum:: Article 1 of the US Constitution defines the structure and responsibilities of Congress. It is the first section after the opening preamble which starts, We the People. Contrary to popular mythology, the three branches are not meant to be coequal; Congress was always meant to be first among equals. Congress has the power to hire and fire officials of the other branches through the confirmation and impeachment processes. Congress is explicitly given the authority to tax and spend, write and enact laws, ratify international treaties, and declare war. The ...

Who Is Entitled to Due Process?

To The Reader’s Forum: So, let’s say any U.S. citizen/non-citizen happens to be accosted on any street, or is taken from their home, by a federal/state/local police officer and is whisked away to any location that is chosen by \”the feds” or whichever “authority\” is involved. Let’s say you are unaware of the location, why the person was whisked away and have no idea if or when the person will return home. Let’s also say the person has no criminal background, yet that person is only said to be part of a “gang” or said to be a “criminal”. Remember, there is no ...

Bridge Reconstruction Ramps Up

I don’t know if you have observed it, but it looks to me like there are at least double the number of people as usual now working on the Chautauqua Lake bridge. It is obvious that the contractor is taking advantage of the good weather and reconstruction work is ramping up. What you see visually is that new decking is proceeding on the south side of the bridge coming from both ends of the bridge towards the middle. I don’t know all of the engineering reasons, but it seems to make common sense, as this is the way the original bridge was built, i.e. after the girders were placed, the ...

We Will Emerge A Stronger Country

The number and scope of Executive Orders that our current administration has enacted and is planning to enact has reached a critical mass. Essential government services that affect working Americans, most of which live paycheck to paycheck and many of whom live in poverty due to lack of economic opportunity in this “great” country, will fail or be cancelled as a result. The individual policies are too many to name, and that is by design. Many of these orders are under legal dispute already, and many more are illegal and will come under dispute. Unfortunately, because due process ...

Best To Say No To BESS

Given the amount of information available from around the world proving how economically destructive Wind/Solar/BESS energy is - it seems a bit self-defeating that NYS still pushes it. NYS politicians and citizens are either ignorant of the economics, or they don’t care because they have other personal interests in mind. Wind and Solar are absolutely unreliable power sources, so BESS (Battery Energy Storage Systems) must be added to the grid - at great expense - as backup for all-to-common periods of low wind and solar generation. BESS just adds to the already extreme cost of wind and ...

Why Is Langworthy Celebrating Trump’s First 100 Days?

Dear Mr. Langworthy, I read your April 29 newsletter celebrating President Trump’s first 100 days in office with equal parts astonishment and rage. Since you have isolated yourself from your constituents, refuse to stand before them defending your actions (and inactions) and instead spin positively the bad judgement of the President, we’re left with little choice but to refute your claims on the editorial page. You bragged that the president has lowered gas prices 7%. In fact, the price of crude oil has dropped significantly because of the looming threat of a global recession ...
