Falconer/Cassadaga Valley Shines At NCCC

SANBORN — Falconer/Cassadaga Valley wrestling added to its resume on Saturday by taking home the team title at the 39th annual Niagara Frontier Wrestling Officials Classic on the campus of Niagara County Community College.

Entering as the No. 3 small school team in the state, according to the New York State Sportswriters Association, the Golden Falcons finished with 205.5 points to edge out Niagara Wheatfield, which finished with 181 and is the No. 15 ranked large school.

“The kids wrestled great from start to finish and we were on top of our game this weekend,” said Falconer/Cassadaga coach Drew Wilcox. “To place 11 guys at that tournament … that says right there that we had a great weekend.”

Robbie Penhollow continued his excellent senior campaign with an individual title to lead the winners, pitching a 7-0 shutout on Dominik Thomas of St. Francis in his final match at 182 pounds.

Jimmy Kramer also made his way to the finals for Falconer/Cassadaga Valley at 138, ultimately falling to Willie McDougald of Niagara Walls in 2:59.

In the 99-pound consolation final, Lucas Randisi of Webster Schroeder took care of Brayden Newman in 2:18, giving the Golden Falcons a fourth-place finish.

Bryce Baglia also took home a fourth-place medal for the winners, losing via a 14-10 decision to Matt Baldwin of Canisius, while Nick Saeger took fourth at 145 after his loss to Ty Raines of Churchville-Chili.

In other team scores, Southwestern collected 46.5 points, Gowanda 27, Jamestown 21 and Salamanca seven.

Michael Carnes was the high finisher for the Trojans, taking fifth at 120.

Falconer/Cassadaga took three fifths in succession with Brock Johnson, Hudson Johnson and Grant Cheney earning those finishes at 170, 182 and 195, respectively.

Leading Jamestown was Jomar Medero Montanez with a 4-2 record for the weekend at 138 pounds, while Dwayne Hannold finished with a 5-2 record and a seventh-place finish at 145.
