Southwestern (7-0, 5-0) claimed its fifth CCAA Division 1 Championship in the last six years thanks to a 105-36 win over Falconer/Cassadaga Valley after sweeping five events.
“Team unity is far more important than talent, and that team chemistry is what drove this group of young ladies this season” said Trojans’ coach Cristin Hockenberry. “It has been a crazy season with the weather, but that hasn’t stopped the girls from working together and pushing each other to be their best, and they have enjoyed the process along the way. This team has been led by an amazing group of seniors that will be missed so much. Their sportsmanship, leadership, and positive attitudes have left a mark on our underclassmen.”
On the way to the win, Cassidy Allen set a school record for Southwestern in the pole vault, hitting a height of 9 feet, 6 inches.
Hannah Sullivan claimed wins in the 1,500 meters (5:14), 800 meters (2:31) and the 3,000 meters (12:10) to pace the winners while Lauren Swan took home the 100-meter hurdles in 16.6 and also won the 400-meter hurdles in 1:07.
For Falconer/Cassadaga Valley Sam Gilbert claimed the 100 meters (12.7), triple jump (33 feet 5 inches) and long jump (13 feet 10.25 inches).
