Rowe Is Most Outstanding As Thunderbirds Claim Ripley Invitational

RIPLEY — The team title for the Ripley Invitational wrestling tournament went to Chautauqua Lake/Westfield/Panama, which finished with 198.5 points, on

Saturday in a field of 14 teams thanks to titles in three different weight classes, including a Most Outstanding Wrestler performance by Bryce Rowe.

In second place was Fredonia with 167.5, followed by Erie with 163.5, Ashtabula Edgewood with 160.5 and Southwestern with 119.5.

Rowe was victorious at 160 pounds, winning by virtue of a 7-5 decision over Joe Galvin of Iroquois of Pennsylvania. Rowe opened by turning Galvin to his back before the Iroquois wrestler eventually rallied back to within a point at the end.

Hunter Harris took home the title at 99 pounds for the Thunderbirds with a technical fall win over teammate Trent Burchanowski. Also leading Chautauqua Lake to victory was Brendon Ramsey, who was able to earn a 5-2 decision win over Wyatt Sluga of Randolph at 120 pounds.

Leading the way at 106 pounds was Southwestern’s Garrett Swan, who prevailed after earning a technical fall of his own over Clay Frentz of Cattaraugus-Little Valley.

Dalton Gardner of Fredonia was the winner at 126 pounds after fighting his way to a 6-0 shutout decision win over Austin Bourgeois of Chautauqua Lake, while teammate Hector Colom was able to sneak out a 6-5 decision over Matt Evans of Randolph for the victory at 132 pounds.

Fredonia earned its third win of the evening at 138 pounds, where Giovanni Russo picked up a pin at 1:37 over Noah Dorman of Chautauqua Lake.

At 145 pounds it was Sam Grey of Cattaraugus-Little Valley who took home the title courtesy of a decision over Derek Ecklund of the Thunderbirds, while Dunkirk’s Angel Carbello was the champion at 170 pounds after pinning Dramonn Carson of Erie in 5:05.
