OLEAN — Falconer/Cassadaga Valley clinched its seventh straight CCAA wrestling championship with a 54-16 Division 1 victory over Olean on Wednesday night.
Dan Torres, who has just one loss this season, pinned his opponent in 3:35 for the Golden Cougars (27-5, 6-0).
Falconer/Cassadaga Valley will compete in the first New York State Public High School Athletic Association Dual Meet Championship on Saturday in Syracuse.
“The way it fell, having state duals this weekend, I was worried about this being a trap game,” Falconer/Cassadaga Valley coach Drew Wilcox said. “The kids responded and wrestled well. We have a real tough league. It’s never easy to win a league title.”
Nate Gabler picked up the lone pin for the Huskies (5-1) at 106 pounds in 1:32.
“The whole team is wrestling better. They were doing a much better job of not getting pinned. We only gave up one pin tonight,” Wilcox said. “Those are the kinds of things you have to do if you want to contend for a state title.”
