The Southwestern Trojans won their third straight Lake Shore Midget Football League championship by beating Bemus Point 14-12 in overtime. The score was 0-0 late in the game. Southwestern’s Jameson Walsh started the scoring with a long run to put the Trojans up 6-0. The Bemus Point defense was up to the challenge on the extra point to hold the score. The score remained 6-0 until Bemus Point quarterback Matthew Welsh was able to tie the game with :26 left on a 5-yard run. With the championship on the line the Trojans defense was able to gather themselves and stop the Red Dragons on the conversion attempt. The game went into overtime and Bemus Point was able to capitalize with the ball first as Daniel Quattrone punched it in to take a 12-6 lead. The Trojans defense was able to come up big again and stopped the extra-point attempt. When the Trojans took possession they relied on Walsh who was able to score on fourth-and-goal from the 1-yard line to tie the game with his 22nd touchdown of the year. Sticking with what has worked, Walsh again followed the blocking of Matthew Burlingame and Anthony Cipolla off right tackle to fall across the goal line with the championship-winning 2-point conversion. Both teams finished the season 9-1.
