JCC Volleyball Team Remains Perfect; Women’s Soccer Wins

TROY -- Undefeated Jamestown Community College (9-0) maintained its perfect volleyball record intact as it swept the POD Tournament hosted by Hudson Valley CC on Saturday.

The Lady Jayhawks, who have yet to lose a set this season, started out by defeating Hudson Valley CC, 25-7, 25-18, 25-12, with Sally Rudny having four aces, 13 kills and 10 digs.

Sierra Wells contributed one ace, 28 assists, one kill and eight digs; MacKenzie Marsh had 10 kills and three digs; Tara Sweeney added four aces, two assists, three kills and five digs; and Kendyl Austin had eight kills, two digs and two blocks.

JCC then took care of North Country CC, 25-12, 25-11, 25-9, with Rudny having one ace, 12 kills and six digs; Wells had one ace, 25 assists, 10 kills and five digs; Austin chipped in three aces, three kills, two digs and one block; and Sweeney collected three assists, four kills, four digs and a one block.

The Jayhawks followed with a victory over Adirondack CC, 25-12, 25-10, 25-10, as Wells had two aces, 38 assists, two kills and five digs; Rudny delivered 20 kills, 11 digs and three blocks; Austin had two aces, five kills, five digs and one block; Marsh added one ace, seven kills, 13 digs and one block; and Kaylin Brumagin had one ace, three kills, four digs and two blocks.

The win lifted JCC to a 9-0 record, including a 7-0 record in Region 3, Division III and a 3-0 record in the Western New York Athletic Conference.

JCC is next in action at 4 p.m. Wednesday at home against Finger Lakes CC.

SOCCER

WOMEN PREVAIL

AUBURN -- Jamestown Community College (5-2) put on an offensive show on against Region III Division 3 girls soccer opponent Cayuga CC, as sophomore Alexa Dix continued her scoring hot streak with a pair of goals to lead the Jayhawks to a 6-0 victory.

"We came out flying in the second half," said Coach Dana Shelters of his team. "It was their ball to start, and we scored 28 seconds into the half. "

It was sophomore Abigail Merchant who tallied that goal to begin the second period, while Courtney Hewes ended the game with a pair of goals and Kristen Bowker added one as well.

All told, the Jayhawks ripped 37 shots on opposing goalkeeper Cheyenne Rivenburg, who ended the night with 20 saves. Morgan Schoonover finished with just two saves in the win for JCC, which will face Finger Lakes CC at home at 2 p.m. Wednesday.

MEN FALL

AUBURN -- Jamestown Community College's men's soccer team ran into a strong Cayuga CC outfit and lost via a 6-0 count in Region 3, Division III action.

Mikel Aubaudo and Grant Stamp scored two goals each. Tallying one goal were Jose Sanchez and Stelim Precadi for Cayuga CC, now 5-1 overall.

Nick Mole had 11 saves for the Jayhawks (0-6) while Konrad Pawliski made two saves for Cayuga CC.

JCC will be back in action when it hosts Finger Lakes CC at 4 p.m. Wednesday in a Region 3, Division III game.
