SARANAC LAKE — A late first-half goal proved to be enough as North Country CC handed Jamestown CC a 2-1 loss in the Jayhawks’ NJCAA Region 3 Division III men’s soccer opener Saturday afternoon.

“I thought we outplayed them, but we made a couple of mistakes that hurt us,” JCC coach Pat Anderson said.

Henry Uzdavinis scored on a rebound with four minutes left in the first half. The original shot was blocked by Jayhawks goalkeeper Nick Mole, but rebounded to Uzdavinis, who scored the tie-breaking goal.

Nyle Bird scored his first collegiate goal as he booted in a corner kick from Ray Amborski in the first half to tie the score at 1-1.

North Country CC took the 1-0 lead on another rebound early in the first half.

Mole made five saves for the Jayhawks and Harry Bennett made eight saves for the Saints.

Jamestown CC continues its road trip by taking on Clinton CC today at 1 p.m.
