Snowmobiler Charged After Crash In Sherman

SHERMAN — An Ohio man has been charged with snowmobiling while intoxicated after a snowmobile accident early Sunday.

Chautauqua County sheriff’s deputies were called at about 1:20 a.m. to a hotel in Mayville to assist village firefighters with a snowmobiler injured in a crash. The operator was identified as 28-year-old John D. Karlovec of Cleveland, Ohio.

Deputies learned Karlovec had been riding his snowmobile on a public trail in Sherman when the crash occurred.

Karlovec was transported to Westfield Memorial Hospital by ambulance for treatment. He was later found to have been operating his snowmobile in an intoxicated condition, the Sheriff’s Office said in a press release.

He was issued an appearance ticket and is scheduled to appear in Sherman Town Court at a later date.
