Downtown IRS Office Closed To Public Indefinitely

Throughout the tax season, individuals looking to frequent the Internal Revenue Service office in Jamestown for assistance have been turned away due to closed doors.

For over a month now, the walk-in office, located at 201 W. Third St., has been closed to patrons looking for tax help. The office remained closed to the public Tuesday.

A call to the Jamestown IRS office found that walk-in assistance hasn’t been available since Jan. 3. No information was provided as to why the office shut down its walk-in office.

Individuals are told to either visit www.irs.gov, or call 800-829-1040 for individual tax information.

Those with questions pertaining to business taxes are told to call 800-829-4933. To schedule an appointment at the Buffalo Office, located at 130 S. Elmwood Ave., people should call 844-545-5640.

The Chautauqua County Industrial Development Agency and Planning and Economic Development Department are located next to the IRS. With a number of individuals coming into the office to inquire about the IRS’ closure, the department has posted a notice which states they have no information regarding the matter.

Meanwhile, U.S. Rep. Tom Reed, R-Corning, told The Post-Journal on Tuesday he’s looking into the matter as he wasn’t aware of the closure.
