An Irving man was cited for failure to yield the right of way when entering a roadway in a crash between an SUV and tractor-trailer Monday.
Chautauqua County sheriff's deputies were called to Howard Street in Silver Creek just before Route 5 and 20 for the collision. An investigation found that the driver of the SUV, 88-year-old Donald J. Hoeber, had allegedly pulled in the path of the semi.
"Despite efforts by the semi driver to avoid a collision, the semi still stuck the SUV before going across the roadway and flipping on its side," the Sheriff's Office said. "As a result of flipping on its side, the semi spilled a large amount of the load of gravel it was carrying." The driver of the semi was taken to Lakeshore Hospital for treatment of injuries.
