FINDLEY LAKE -- The possible construction of a Dollar General in Findley Lake is slated to be voted upon next month.
Rebecca Brumagin, Mina town supervisor, said they met with a representative from Dollar General during their March town board meeting, but weren't ready to vote on the proposed site plan and State Environmental Quality Review impact assessment. The Dollar General is being proposed to be built along Route 426 in Findley Lake
"Everything was submitted to us that night. It was the first opportunity we had to review everything, which included meeting their representative," she said. "Because we really hadn't been given any information in advance, we plan on doing the reviews now. We plan on taking action at our next town board meeting in April."
Brumagin said the town board is scheduled to meet at 7 p.m. Tuesday, April 10, and the plan is to vote on the site plan and SEQR during the meeting. She said town officials don't known the timeline for the construction of the 9,100-square-foot Dollar General, if the project is approved.
"They are anxiously awaiting an approval from us so they can start soon after," she said.
Town residents seem to have mixed feelings about the proposed construction of the neighborhood general store, Brumagin said. She said last year a couple of petitions, one including 300 signatures, were submitted to the board opposing the store's construction. She also has heard a lot of support for the store from residents.
"It has been very divided. There were a lot of people who were very opposed to it initially," she said. "Verbally, a lot of people have expressed support for it."
Brumagin said the site plan fits all of the town's zoning requirements. She said the reason the town board is voting on the site plan is because construction of any building larger than 5,000 square feet needs their approval.
