DUNKIRK -- Three people were remanded to jail Tuesday following the discovery of an alleged methamphetamine lab in Dunkirk.
The drug bust began after Chautauqua County sheriff's deputies attempted to serve an arrest warrant on 39-year-old Jeremiah C. Haas, of Allegheny Road, Silver Creek. The warrant was issued from the village charging him with second-degree harassment and criminally obstructing breathing.
While taking Haas into custody, deputies observed a suspicious white powder suspected to be methamphetamine as well as items commonly used to manufacture meth.
Also in the residence were 23-year-old Torry R. Kenny of Cottage Street, Westfield, and 18-year-old Lydia R. Franklin, of Dunkirk. Two children were in the residence, sheriff deputies said.
All three were taken into custody and charged with criminal possession of a controlled substance, unlawfully making methamphetamine, second-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, second-degree criminally using drug paraphernalia, and endangering the welfare of a child.
The Chautauqua County HAZMAT team and Southern Tier Regional Drug Task Force responded Tuesday to clean and dispose of the hazardous materials.
Haas, Kenny and Franklin were initially transported to Dunkirk City Jail where they were arraigned. The three were then remanded to Chautauqua County Jail pending further court action.
