An Ohio man is in critical condition after the tractor-trailer he was driving went off Interstate 86 early Tuesday.
The crash occurred around 5:15 a.m. on the interstate, between the Route 430 and Strunk Road exits.
According to the New York State Police, 54-year-old Donald Tenny was in the eastbound lane when his semi left the road and struck the median just short of the Westman Road overpass in the town of Ellery. Tenny may have suffered a medical emergency prior to the crash, Capt. Eric Balon of the state police said.
Tenny was initially transported by Bemus Point firefighters to UPMC Chautauqua and later to an Erie, Pa., hospital.
The eastbound lane was closed to traffic for about four hours. Firefighters from Bemus Point and Ashville responded to the interstate, as did members of the Chautauqua County Fire Police Team.
The semi was removed from the interstate around 9 a.m. According to Randy Apperson, assistant chief with the Bemus Point Fire Department, the semi was hauling building materials.
