(12:05 PM) Fredonia Police Receive Complaints Of Male Following Women, Children At Stores

FREDONIA — The Fredonia Police Department is currently investigating suspicious situations at Walmart in the village over the past several weeks in which a man was observed following women and children.

Specifically, on Sunday a woman reported that while in the store with her two children she was followed around the store by an adult male. She made contact with Walmart employees and advised them of the situation and the man left the area. Following the incident the woman went to the Fredonia police Department and reported the incident.

On Wednesday, another woman reported that while in Walmart on Aug. 8 with her child, she was followed around the store by an adult male. She made contact with her mother (an employee at Walmart) pointed the person out to her mother and at that point the man left the area.

On Wednesday, the Fredonia Police Department was informed by the Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Office that they took a report from a female on Tuesday regarding a similar incident that occurred on Aug. 11 at TJ Maxx. In this incident the adult female (no children with her) was followed around the store by an adult male. Upon realizing she was being followed she took a picture of the suspect and the suspect left the area.

The woman later placed a post on Facebook alleging she had witnessed an attempted abduction at Walmart. Police said they investigated the allegation and determined it was a false posting.

The man has been identified and is the same person from all three incidents. The man never attempts to speak or contact the victims, Fredonia police said.

The Fredonia Police Department continues to work closely with Walmart personal regarding the incidents and asks anyone having information regarding this matter to contact the Fredonia Police Department at 679-1531.
